first of all you need to research your artist. make sure he or she is good. ask to look at their portfolio. don't make the first time you go into the shop and meet the artist the day you are getting the tattoo. it is okay if you go ahead of time. meet and disguss your tattoo and look at their other work. while you are there you can ask to see where they sterilize their tools (which should be an autoclave) good luck on your tattoo!!

I have 3 tattoos. One is in memory of my son who passed away it is on my chest right above my heart. One is in memory of a fiance that passed away at a young age that is on my left shoulder so that it too can be close to my heart. They are both in areas where I can show them if I wear a tank or low cut shirt but can also cover them if I need to. Hope this helps. The 3rd on is on my right shoulder by the way.

I think the shoulder blade is a good spot for one. I have one there (also a memorial tat) I also have one on my ankle. Both can be easily covered if I feel that I don't want to show them and can be shown off easily by choice of clothing.
Either way I didn't get either for show off purposes I got them for their meaning to me.
If you plan on working a job where they frown upon such things avoid places like your neck, hands, and parts of the arm that can't be covered in short sleeves (unless you don't mind long sleeves in the summer), you may also want to avoid your lower back which isn't the most showy place but isn't uncommon to be seen if you bend over unless you always tuck your shirt in or wear long shirts.

Why don't you ask about some good shops in your area then go check 'em out. Don't settle for a shop just because it's close to your house. It's your body, your ink, it's worth doing the research. I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your sister. You're doing a great thing by keeping her with you forever.

Get whatever that suggests whatever to you that's displayed by way of an emblem or whatever written in Japanese...it consistently appears cool. It's a talk subject too, you'll be able to consistently be requested what it way due to the fact no person can simply arise and browse it. I have a tribal signal that appears lovely cool and the logo is for Longevity.

Is it a clean place? Are the artists friendly?....If they are total *****, then move on. You will be sitting with this artist for hours and sharing your intimate feelings about your sis...you want someone that seems genuine. You want them to be stoked about doing your tattoo. I have a memory tattoo..let me tell you...it sure helps with the healing process. Every time I see it, I smile.

Think about clothing that you wear frequently, and whether or not they would cover it up well...
Decide whether or not you want other people to be able to see it, and how often...
If you want the tattoo just for yourself, and not for many others to see, then put it in a place that is covered up by clothing normally, but you can still show others (while still being tasteful).
Just keep in mind that wherever you put it, that's where it's going to stay. :)
Good luck!

I say you should do it anywhere you want. Bone or not. After all, this isn't just for show is it? It's in memory of your sister. The pain makes it even more meaningful. I'll bet that if your sister knows you're going through so much pain just to show that tattoo off... for her, it'll make her even prouder.

I've never had a tatoo before, but make sure you see them open the packaging on the needle and ink before they do it...If they refuse to open a fresh needle and ink right in front of you, leave and go somewhere else.
You don't want to risk contracting anything, such a Hep-C(might be B) or HIV.

I'd get it somewhere where you can either show it off or keep it hidden if you choose to. Although you're getting it in memory of your sister, you'll never forget her! I'd say either in the small of your back or on your hip.
