Thats right, during the black plague of Europe and Asia, the Roman Catholic church, struggling to maintain authority, decided to spread a vicious rumor about how the Germanic Jews poisoned the water supply, creating the black death? Not so nice huh?

That's not true. They didn't KNOW what caused the Black Plague.
However, it was the Roman Catholic church that put a STOP to the Plague by using quarantine and cleansing rituals described in the Old Testament of the Bible!

You are right and as a Christian I am ashamed of this black period. Wouldn't you say that the world advanced since then and acquired a civilization that tolerates religious differences? How come then that the Muslims behave as if they live in 13Th century and kill whoever is not of their faith going as far as to decapitate the innocent on TV for the world to admire?

Gee, I wonder if atheists were smart enough to realize that the best thing to insure their life would be to become a part of the "church" claiming to be a Christian. After all, learning "Christian speak" isn't all that difficult and then, once entrenched in the hierarchy of the "church" they could weild their power to their advantage.

And why shouldn't they do it? There isn't any god to stop them or be responsible to so it's every man for himself, right?

My point, Jibba Jabba, is that while many paraded themselves to be Christians they simply weren't. How is that evident? Jesus the Christ said that "They will know you by how you love one another" and "If you love Me, do as I command" which was to "love your enemies" and "bless them that curse you."

The destruction of the lives of these Jews in the 1300's was disgusting and inexcusable. But the leaders of that movement who inflicted this sin on others were no more Chrstians than the Nazi's who did the same thing.

Now, in keeping with my Savior's command.... Bless you.

How'd I do? Do I get the 10 points?

The history of the world is violent.

There have been Popes that have done bad things and committed great sins, no argument there.

But the faith itself is preserved and still the true Church that Jesus started.

History if full of bad people killing in the name of God, of all Faiths. That is to the condemnation of those people, not God or Religion.

Saying Catholics are not christians is like saying that water is not wet. Anyone who believes that should do some study of the history of the Catholic Chruch and the roots of Christianiaty.

Peace!

Nothing new Christians have been killing Jews for 1700 years.

Thousands of Jews in the Middle ages were burned alive for crackercide. A rumor was spread that we stole and tortured communion wafers. So we were rounded up and burned alive (women and children included). Then there is the age old favorite of how we need the blood of christian children to make matzo countless Jews were slaughtered over this one. The list is endless.

And they killed thousands of Muslims and other Christians also. The First Crusade was terrible as they passed through eastern Europe and down to the Balkans.

Do you realize that people have been killing people for their religious belief since religion was organized up until right this moment?

Right now Muslims and butchering Muslims in Iraq. I don't see you complaining about that. Why might that be?

Please keep in mind that Jesus warned that not all who claimed his name truly belonged to him. History shows us that what you say is true, and I will not even try to justfiy such an abominable and horrific act in the name of God. But, those who were a part of it were not truly followers of the true Jesus Christ.

Though I don't believe Christians are to be pacifists, I also have serious issues with those (of whom I am one. I claim to be a Born-Again Christian) who believe in taking such actions, justifying it for, "The cause of Christ". Using the name of God to justify one's own personal agenda is nothing new. It was how the Pharisees were able to sway those who were chanting, "Hosanna, blessed be the Son of David" on Palm Sunday, to chant, "Away with Him! Crucify Him!" on Good Friday. The Apostle Paul also had people he had discipled take him out and stone him to near death, because others were able to convince them it was God's will that he die.

The historic event you mention is tragic, and beyond words of horror to even start to describe. Even though I know those who were at the head of it, claimed to be doing it in the name of Jesus Christ, I want to say they were not true followers of Him. Jesus, and later Paul in 2 Timothy 3, both warned that the greatest danger their followers would face would not be outside persecution, but inside sabatoge and espinoge from wolves in sheep's clothing that claim to be his followers, but are really out to destroy the message of salvation and hope the cross of Christ offers to all who would believe.

A quote from Carl Sagan:

"In Italy, the Inquisition was condemning people to death until the end of the eighteenth century, and inquisitional torture was not abolished in the Catholic Church until 1816."

Yeah, I knew this. I'm not Christian or anything, but I gotta ask, what is it with people who are trying to discredit Christianity by dredging up it's bloody past? What's the matter, can't find anything current to spew at them?
