We believe that we are the offspring of God; in other words, we are literally sons and daughters of a divine being. As such, we have the potential to be like him. Some have extrapolated this idea to conclude that we can one day be creators of worlds, but I don't think there is any official church doctrine to that extent, so I guess that's just speculation. Nevertheless, the fact is we are all children of a God. It is not hard to imagine that the children of a God can also become gods. Check out the links below, which provide scriptural references to this idea (many of which are quoted from the Bible).

Note: if the video your friend has is called the Godmakers, don't bother watching it. This film has been denounced by the Anti-Defamation League (which is a non-Mormon organization) for many of its lies and twisted truths. It is not an accurate portrayal of what Mormons believe.

That is what they believe, but they do not believe they will be above or equal to God, whom we all worship. They believe they can have the ability to continue to progress and obtain glory, as does God, but it is through our progression and good works we add to God's glory. They believe if you are sealed to your spouse through the Priesthood you can remain married after this life and can have the ability to continue to have children (spirit children) and by doing so would in essence be like God, or godly. You will have dominion over these children and their existence. It must be remembered however, we will never replace or rise to the level of God.

If the video you were given was negative toward the Mormon church I am pretty sure an active member of the church didn't give it to your friend. The things you are discussing are very deep and difficult to understand without the proper foundation. I would suggest learning more about the Mormon faith before you get into the deeper doctrines. You should do this by either visiting mormon.org or talking with actual practicing members or missionaries. Diving into the deep things is like trying to learn algebra without having a foundation of basic addition or multiplication.

Good luck.

I don't think there are any actual mormons on right now that could answer that question. I would ask it in the evening. Also, try looking it up on the web.

Edit:

Okay, I know that it's been a while since you asked this question, but I decide to watch the video "The God Makers” myself (I don’t know if that’s what you’re talking about or not) to see what it was all about. I'm not Christian so I want to give you my neutral view on it. This video is a bunch lies and hatred mixed in with a little bit of truth so as to confuse you. In a lot of parts I think it was really the pot calling the kettle black. I wouldn’t take it seriously if I were you.

They do think that - They don't teach it though until you're further along in their religion. Read the book of Mormon and pray. They have a lot of good points and a lot do seem off the wall at first. And they can show you were they get it from in the Bible and book of Mormon. They're not as crazy and different as people think. There just deeper.

specific and No- he's the single authentic God with the daddy, who's Heavenly Father. he's not the "God" the daddy the Bible speaks, because of the fact he's the Son of God. And no they are no longer working in direction of to be Gods of planets and universes, they are residing to be as close to to God's teachings as achievable so as that throughout the time of the destiny they could be like God's image. no longer "GODS", yet like as God became into. pay attention to no longer people who have been excommunicated from the Church, as lots of them are relatively the particularly some maximum deceptive and evil ones right this moment. as a substitute have faith in prayer, as in case you will pray over the e book of Mormon and Bible the spirit will make specific to you interior of hours.

This probably isn't the best place to get objective information about the doctrine of the LDS church.

Go to the source: www.lds.org

Specifically, here's a link on LDS (Mormon) beliefs regarding eternal marriage: http://www.lds.org/topics/0,8170,1569-1-96,00.html

Here's a link specifically relating to LDS beliefs regarding resurrection and our eternal potential: http://www.lds.org/topics/0,8170,1569-1-130,00.html

Hope that helps!
