I had the same problem! I have a Maine coon who just loves water, but she HATED the cat water fountain so much that she actually chewed through the electrical cord! How's that for making a statement? Unfortunately, I think they either love it or hate it. Hopefully you can return it! I've found that my cat seems to love drinking out of glasses. I have a couple of glasses just for the cat & she seems to mostly drink out of these rather than her bowls. Actually, she uses her bowls as swimming pools for her pet furry mice! When she's not playing with them she carries them & drops themin her water bowl! WEIRD! Good luck to you. try the glasses, maybe that will work.

I have the same problem. I dont know if your cat likes it, but some cats like eating grass. There are fountains that have a place for it to grow, and that might intrigue him. Otherwise, make sure your fountain is right next to his food, so he can find it when hes eating.
My cat, for some reason, would rather drink my filtered water FROM MY DRINKING CUP! (little *****..lol), so don't let him start this habit if he tries to. Keep putting him in front of it, every once and awhile, and encourage him. If he drinks - even a little praise like Jesus has come!
I've found it helps, when he feels like hes doing something right, he'll do it more.
Just be stubborn. Think like a cat.
Make sure there are no other places for him to get his water from, so hell have to drink from there.
And! Try turning the "waterfall" on high, if you can. We have the drinkwell, and I find my kitten will go look to play, and then end up drinking instead...

My two took to the fountain straight away but they did like playing in the sink before I got the fountain. If you haven't already why not try putting the fountain on a table or a surface off the floor for a bit of variety. Or maybe he just doesn't like the fountain!

Silver, I didn't have any success with my six cats. They just ignored it completely. Splash you fingers in it a little to see if you could prime his interest. Ice cubes make a noise and have movement which intrigues some cats. Of course he may just play and still not drink.
Just let him play and drink from the faucet. When I filter water for coffee one of my cats likes to drink from the pot before I make the coffee. My son's cat would only drink water from a cup my son keep in the bathroom for him - never from his water bowl.
The best way to get moisture into your cat is with canned food. When I use that I always mix in at least a teaspoon of filtered water into each serving.

.Some cats actually do not like water, infact they hate it! when it's a running tap its more of a game, maybe he doesn't like the noise of the pump, & he's thinking what the heck is going on here! If he's thirsty he'll drink, cats aren't stupid.
