My sister just called me to tell me that her 13 year old cat has bloos in his urine and she is worried that he is on his way out and that it will die soon. Should she worry about it?

I don't know about your sister's male car, but I once had a female car--she was a Chevy. I wanted to breed her with a Chrysler and maybe get a Ferrari, but, alas, all the carlets were Isuzus.

:(

Your sister should take her cat to the vet immediately. It is probably something that can be treated. My old cat just died at 22 and 1/2 years of age - I don't feel that it has to be the end of the line with a 13 year old. And the cat definitely needs help from the vet now.

Older cats do need more vet attention than younger ones and the cat does not need to die!

He might just have a urinary tract infection.

She can either take the cat to the vet for a check up where they will try to get a urine sample from him, or she can try to get a urine sample herself and take that into the vet.

She can go to the pet store and get plastic pellets that resemble kitty litter. Using a clean litter pan, put the pellets into the pan and then close the cat into the room with the new litter box. Once the cat uses it, she can drain the urine off into a clean container and bring it in to the vet for testing.

So long as he's acting ok otherwise (not lethargic, still eating and drinking and acting himself), this can be cleared up with antibiotics if it is indeed a UTI.

It is worrying, but he will not necessarily die. But he must be treated right away by a vet. My cat had this when he was 1 year old, it was a urinary tract infection, he took antibiotics and now he is fine. However, he must be treated immediately and have a urine analysis to identify the bacteria, and eat urinary PH balancing food. But the vet must check him immediately, because male cats can form crystals and block and stop urinating and that's very dangerous, but treatable. If he has a renal problem, the vet will say how to treat him.

She needs to get him to a vet. It is normal in an older cat to have urinary problems. They can fix him right up, and it's usually not very expensive. He most likely just needs some meds! Sometimes, though, if there is a blockage, the vet will need to do a procedure. Either way, he needs to go to the vet!

it could be cystitis or struvite crystals causing a partial blockage. very uncomfortable and can be very painful. She needs to take the cat to the vet regardless! If the cat is dying (which I don't think it is unless it has a ruptured bladder) it needs to have its pain ended one way or another. If its an infection or blockage it needs to be treated. The cat definitely needs some relief from the pain/discomfort.

If the car has blood in the urine, than is not a car - or maybe its haunted. Just get an oil check and that should fix that, and get them to stop the leak.

Yes she should. The cat has a urinary tract infection. If he's taken to the vet now, it is probably possible to save him. And there is a medicine he can be given to deal with the problem. But it has to be done NOW.
