That is great you have been able to give up the alcohol. As far smoking I would set a quit date that is about two weeks from now and really get yourself in the frame of mind. Look up smokers lungs online and see what will not be missing. It worked for me. There is a website called whyquit.com. I would stay away from alcohol all together and you will be more successful in quiting smoking

The general opinion is that you should not give up smoking right now, I'll tell you why. Congratulations on 2 days without alcohol. That is terrific, but it does not constitute a permanent change in your behavior patterns. If you try to change too many behaviors at once, you can become ovewhelmed with the changes you are making, and revert to the old behavior patterns that you and your body know best. What is your committment on the alcohol deal? Are you going to change your life? Or are you just taking a break? If you are serious about changing your life, (and it sounds like you should) then commit to not drinking, one day at a time, and keep it up for at least 6 months. Don't start again, you'll be back in your same old boat in no time. After you have truly instituted this change in your life, consider stopping smoking. You know the old saying, "How do you eat an elephant?" The answer is, "One bite at a time". You've taken 2 big bites, but perserverence is something you have yet to put into action.
EDIT Addition: I am a HUGE Anglophile.

Don't worry about the smoking right now. It's very hard to quit two things at once. It's great that you haven't had a drink in 2 days. Awesome. But to keep that going, you really need AA meetings. Everyone there has been through what you are going through and can help you SO much. They can tell you how they got through it and other life issues without drinking. You might be ticked that I would even suggest that you are an alcoholic.....but you are. Quitting is the BEST thing you could ever do for yourself. No matter where you are in the world, there is a meeting getting ready to start.

You're right - 2 days is not long! You obviuosly need to make some changes!
Well done for bothering and trying to do it now. I haven't drunk for 3 yrs and gave up smoking at the same time - I was in hospital so had no choice! But drinking and smoking i think are linked so by only giving up one you are probably going to fail sooner or smoke way too much - which is also very bad!

First of all, I'd like to say congratulations, this is a very big step, the first step is admitting you have got a problem, the next is doing something about it!
You have taken these two steps, but do not rush, it takes time, just take one day at a time.
As for giving up smoking, do not try to give up just yet, but you could start trying to visualise yourself as a non-smoker!
This worked for me, every time I had a cigarette, I would ask myself questions, such as why did I light up a cigarette? did I really enjoy smoking it? did I really want a cigarette or was it just because I had a coffee? I always answered these questions honestly, and over time, my answers did change, and I realised that I was not enjoying smoking anymore, it was a habit! This really did help me when I eventually decided the time was right to stop smoking.
Hope this is helpful!

Congratulations! Hang in there. Stopping smoking is your next big step. It's all about willpower. Apparently you have alot. Just a few little facts for you; I'm 46 and have been smoking for 36 of those years. I am very sick from smoking, and have tried everything to quit. Please don't end up like me. I am on a breathing machine and can barely leave my house. Maybe that will give you some incentive to quit. Good luck. Even I don't know you, but I'm very proud of you. You goooooooo!

Wow...your on a roll!! Good for you!!
Sounds like you quit drinking "cold turkey"....How about doing the same with smoking???
Remember the more times you try to quit smoking the better!!
Give yourself time and some credit for not drinking!!
Good luck!!!

Dang... Good for you.... Its been two days... Don't go completely shocking your body just yet... You will probably have lots of problems going through two withdrawals at a time.... Once you feel comfortable enough after a few months then quit smoking..
Keep up the good work though..

Congrats...I'm happy for you...I had a friend in college that did that and he exploded on his weight. That didn't seem very healthy for him and he was a very active person. when you go out with your friends just don't drink to much in excess or abstain. you should def give up impurities and start exercising.
That will give you a lot more energy.
Good luck right now you are on the wagon. try not to get off the wagon. i wish you luck.
