Okay, this is going to sound silly to you, but it is because your burner cannot handle +R DVD discs.
The ending, -R, +R, -RW, +RW is important. And so is single layer and double layer. And soon to come HD and BlueRay.
What you have is most likely a CD/DVD-R/RW drive, which means you can use:
CD-R
CD-RW
DVD-R
DVD-RW
discs in your drive to record things. Any discs that end in the +R or +RW you cannot use in your drive, and any double layer discs you cannot use.
You can get a stand-alone USB Sony CD/DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer drive for about $50 to $100 and then use all the different disc types.
You can usually return the DVD+R discs in exchange for DVD-R discs by explaining to them that you got the wrong disc type. The stores are usually understanding.

Sounds Like your DVD Drive only accepts DVD-R Discs-Therefore -R Discs are unreadable!
Take them back to the store with your Receipt and exchange them!

If you've been able to use DVD-R's then your drive does not recognize the DVD+R's because they are the wrong format for your burner.

your burner may need a firmware upgrade, google the make and model to see if there are any updates available.
http://svp.co.uk/firmware/
or as previously stated your burner may not be compatable with +R media ... only -R
