If they are talking to you they will take calls without excusing themselves or anything would rather spend time with the phone ignoring people in the vicinity. How annoying do you find that? If you have given someone an appointment can't people not take calls unless it's an absolute emergency! People trying to pretend like you are not important enough to talk to and i'd rather be glued into my phone!

Even my manager does that, i take an appointment to talk to him about my career development and he wants to send sms's in the middle of the conversation and then their is this uncomfortable silence for a while!

The ironical part is when he got on the phone i said, "Perhaps i should come back another time" and this fellow goes, "where is your courtesy, you are very rude and all I'm not at your beck and call"!

I agree completely !!
If I have an appointment with someone and they pick up their cell phone to take a call while I am meeting with them, I tell them that our meeting is over and that they should find their way to the door and don't bother calling again for an appointment.
No excuses except an emergency !
If that phone call is more important than me or my business, than bye bye !
I think people have totally lost their awareness of etiquette and just plain polite manners when it comes to respect towards others.
I don't know what the answer is, but I find it very rude and self serving.
Great question !

Right on! I went on a blind date once and the guy answered his phone and talked to the guy for about 3 minutes! Needless to say he didn't get a second date.
Oh, and you're not rude for asking if there's a better time when someone answers the phone in the middle of your conversation/meeting. Just ask them to come see you or call you when they're done and walk out. The only reason that you may have been considered rude in that situation is that you interrupted them while they were in a conversation, however they interrupted your conversation first. Some people just can't take what they dish out.

I agree with you. I love my cell, but really folks, must you have it on 24/7?
I was at a club meeting one time. The guest speaker was the District Health Director of the area in which we lived. He was there that night to talk about rabies and West Nile diseases in the area. He was NOT being paid for this. He came to talk about the problems, etc. and to answer questions. In the middle of his talk phones began to ring. These people didn't even have the courtesy to leave the room, they carried on conservations with children, husbands, wives, etc. that could have waited.
If there had been a true emergency, the county police department headquarters were housed in the same building. I think we could have been contacted quite easily.
I was so embarrassed. Not only was this person someone I worked with, but this was a small group. The president of the club had at least three phone calls from her children who were at home with her husband.
I think all phones should be turned off or at least put on mute while attending any group function. Did you see the tape of the bride that received a phone call in the middle of her wedding? Not only was her phone on but the fact she had it with her at the time and she actually answered it shocked me!

Dude, I feel your pain. When someone makes an appointment for my professional time and then picks up a phone, I will walk away. When (and IF) I feel like finishing the conversation I will - I just take my time. Unless it is a phone call we're waiting for that has immediate and pertinent information we need, I will not waste my time. My boss knows this too - if she takes a phone call while talking to me I will walk away and we'll pick up later.
These are the people that truly believe the world is revolving around them. I don't think those people are trying to waste your time but they are selfish.

It is very rude. I'm constantly harping on my boyfriend because of his phone. It's on 24/7 and rings constantly. His bosses and staff must always be able to get a hold of him. He's actually answered the phone while we were at the movies! I gave him major s**t for that. The world is not going to end if you turn your phone off for 2 hours. That's why he has voice-mail. He also answers work calls while he's on vacation.
I also have customers that come in to my store while on a business call and conduct their business. It's a small store and they speak loudly because I guess they think that the person they are speaking with can't hear them if they use their indoor voice.
This is all driving me nuts! There's no personal time anymore. It seems that everyone is work, work, work, all the time. Take time for yourselves people! You deserve it! The world will not end if they can't get a hold of you!

Modern Technology has taken over the world, even take away the love of mankind towards each other. we should never allow a small device such as a cell phone to manipulate our lives, so as not to communicate with each other in person, this can be hurtful as well as offensive. our minds have become so warped, all we want to do is showoff ourselves in public, but guess what? everybody has a cell phone now, even the poorest class of people, so there is no need to showoff, some of us have more cell phones than we can answer, we are confused by this device, we make big fools of ourselves without even realizing that, WE EVEN KILL OR DIE OVER THIS DEVICE.This goes to show how warped we have become because of cellphones.

You are quite correct. Cell phones are further eroding our ability to carry on civilized conversations. It is a technology best left for emergencies and when you are alone...but people just don't get that. I guess because they foolishly spend so much money on the service. It is funny to hear so many people say they can't live without their phones...whatever.
