Cereal at 4 months....Stage 1 about 5 months and then kept adding as neccesssary.
Amer. Academy of Peds. agree that a baby should not have solid food until 4 months of age.

Around 6 months I think. If you're buying jar food - once your baby starts eating a decent amount - don't waste your money on the tiny little stage 1 fruits & vegetables. I found that Stage 2 is the same consistency & a much better value. (My kids always preferred Beech Nut over Gerber)

Cereal I started at 3 months but it didnt help and jar food I started at 4 months. Start with level 1 baby food and move up according to your baby's swallowing capabilities. Some doctors say start around 4-6 months but i did at 4 months because my daughter ate like a little piggie! lol!

Babies need breast milk or formula for the first year. The later you start foods the less likely they are to have food allergies and their digestive systems are more likely to be ready. I started my 1st child at 6 months, my 2nd at 7 months, my 3rd, 4th and 5th at 8 months. Starting later meant I had to buy less baby food in the jar. It's also less messy because they don't spit food out as much.

My son got cereal at 5 months and baby food at 6 months. I would have waited on cereal at 6 months too like they suggest but my son needed more then just formula. And this was orders from his doctor.

My son ate like a horse. So I started pablum and cereal at 2 and a half months. He was on a full baby food diet by 5 months, with only one bottle at night before bedtime.
He's a big boy. LOL Still eats like a horse at 21 months.

I am a mom of four and it really depends on the child. All of mine started at different times. You really need to ask yourself a few questions.
1.) Is your child wanting to eat sooner than they should (like an hour early or so)
2.) Does your child seem unsatisfied with milk alone?
3.) Is your child eating their bottle very quickly? (this can be a problem)
If you answer yes I would try some cerial (made with formula or breast milk) the worst that will happen is they will spit it out and refuse to eat it,
Good Luck

I started my daughter on pureed foods that I cooked myself (squash, sweet potatoes, green beans, fruit, etc) when she was 6 months old. I never did the baby food thing.

I tried at 4 months, but he wasn't ready. He refused to eat it, so I tried again at 6 months and he was ready.
