I was watching the religious channel last night for s/hits and giggles and I was shocked when some evangelist said that in his church 1+1=3 and that this was an example of "god's math."

How Orwellian of him! This is the exact kind of chrisitian mindf/uck that I find disgusting. Now for my question: what is the most insipid thing you've ever heard from a religious person?

How can one not compare this to 1984?

Don't be offended by my vulgarity, be offended that there is a man on TV telling people that 1+1=3! Why aren't you outraged?! Surely basic math is not of the devil? Or is it....

This is verbatim, kids. I didn't take it out of context, I didn't make it up.

Your analogy does make perfect sense. It requires a certain amount of doublethink to find a way to believe something so blatantly untrue. However, I don't know if I find this flaw of logic as dangerous as some. I think that some of the mainstream arguments of Christianity are more malignant considering that they've infiltrated the masses. Take, for instance, the assertion that the Bible, which tells us all we know about God, is infallible because it was written by God when it's the Bible that tells us that God wrote it.

Don't be silly. Everyone knows that 1 + 1 = 10.

That aside, the thing that most blew my mind coming from an extremely religious individual was someone who said, "I prayed to God that my daughter would recover from her illness and He saved her."

No mention of the doctors that tirelessly performed surgery on the child, or the nurses that kept watch over her in ICU.

Please understand, I'm not anti-religious, I'm just saying to give credit where it is due. Maybe God did have a hand in it, but you can't heap the praise squarely on Him when so many others did their part.

The most insipid thing I've heard? Well, it's hard to say, but I guess the most recent one was the expression of opinion that someone else's belief system was nothing better than an "Orwellian mindf/uck". I have no patience for that sort of close-minded bigotry.

Wouldn't you agree?

Well, I have no idea who you were listening to, I have been a Christian for 30 years and have never herd anything remotely like that.

What I find disgusting is people who label a whole group as ignorant, loud, self-centered, arrogant, and all of the other "labels" that get placed on Christians by people who do not even have a clue as to what and why our beliefs are, but prefer to find some wacko on TV and use one phrase out of his "Sermon" to paint all people who are Christians as stupid.

I also find your language disgusting.

May God Bless you!

He might have been talking about the Trinity and yiu got your facts wrong. He might have been using the example of Father ,Son ,and Holy Spirit, being 1 what and 3 who's .Also that God is One ,but in 3 persons, using the equation 1x1x1=1 .

That's retarded, and so is that evangelist for saying so.
Most insipid thing I've heard from any religious person comes nowhere NEAR being as insipid as your "question", and comparing Christians to 1984.

It's truly mindnumbing to me that people are more offended by your use of expletives, then by the frightening untruth of what their kind is preaching to others.

But surely you must have known that posting it here it would fall on deaf ears? The xian element on here is loud, judgemental, closed-minded, and many of them seem to be the sort that fall in for that 1+1=3 math and science that they are taught by their preachers.

Funny you use the word insipid. Insipid means devoid of qualities that make for Spirit and Character. I see more insipid things in non-Christians like yourself in the foul language you use.

Most inspiring thing?

From the book of Romans,Jesus Christ said:Whosoever call upon the name of the lord shall be saved.

How 'bout you clean up that filthy mouth before you post another question.

Well, my crazy deceased father preached that it is a sin to make friends with those of other religions....
