Religion is a organized set of beliefs. Those who share the same beliefs and join the church are of the same religion. This is true regardless of what denomination. Do not confuse this with a walk with God.

As a formerly Baptist person, who converted to Catholic 10 years ago, I can tell you the basics, but others who are Baptist and have that sort of pride that comes from being a part of something you love can give you the more 'emotional' idea.
As far as the Baptist religion goes, it was founded about 300 years ago, and spread mostly across the south. There are more than one type of baptist, the most common you will find is 'Southern Baptist'. They have a leadership beyond their local church and agree to certain subjects to be spoken about and verses to relate to on Sundays. They also have a voted and agreed upon set of beliefs regarding the way that they live their everyday lives. So the most common is that they do not drink alcohol.
Now, there are other Baptist churches that are indepentant of the 'Southern Baptist'. They are mostly in agreement, but I think some of them go beyond that and you will see the ones who are stricter on the limits of worldly things. For instance, some encourage women and girls to wear longer style dresses, and no makeup. Or they may believe that you should not dance, although I don't know anyone that personally believes that. But if you are old enough to remember the movie 'Footloose', I think those people were baptist, of course that does not mean a lot in a movie done by Hollywood!!!
Mostly, when you are Baptist, you get baptized in the Baptist church, as I was as a young child. Then you go to church on Sunday and listen to the preacher guide you in life with his sermon. You also go to Sunday school, which is a lot of fun for the kids and adults, there is a lot of great fellowship in the Baptist churchs.

Baptists in general are members of a Baptist church.
Baptist churches are part of a Christian movement often regarded as an Evangelical, Protestant denomination.
Baptists emphasize a believer's baptism by full immersion, which is performed after a profession of faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior.
A congregational governance system gives autonomy to individual local Baptist churches, which are sometimes associated in organizations such as the Southern Baptist Convention

Generally baptist beliefs hold an Arminian theology, although there are is some Calvinism mixed in (once saved always saved, for instance, but no predestination). Jesus died for all, not any elect, therefore those below the age of reason are already saved. Past the age of reason, salvation depends upon human will.
As a result of free will being the operant path to eternal life, baptism naturally follows both as a commandment of Christ and a statement of faith. This is done by full immersion as a symbol of Jesus death, burial, and being raised from the dead, and new life in Him.
Communion is a "symbol only" of Christ's body and blood. There is no transubstantiation (literal body & blood contained in the elements), no consubstantiation ("on, with, and under" the elements), and no spiritual presence ("I don't know, it's a mystery). This makes the rite an ordinance, a commandment of Christ, rather than a sacrament.
There are other things involved like church government, but I'm sure you could do an Internet search for any other info you need.
I attend a Baptist church and love the pastor & congregation dearly, but come from a Calvinist background & believe none of the above! But I don't bite either, I'm not going to try chasing anyone away, and they haven't tried to proselytize me. We have fun with our banter & focus on our relationship with our Creator instead.

A Baptist is a member of a Baptist church or any follower of Jesus Christ who believes that baptism is administered by the full immersion of a confessing Christian.
They argue that there have always been those who didn't follow any organized "denominational" system, rather they practiced their faith in the same manner as the early Christians mentioned in the book of Acts in the Bible. They claim to be successors to these early churches.
Theologically, most Baptists emphasize a believer's baptism by full immersion, which is performed on non-infants after a public profession of faith in Jesus as Savior. Baptists traditionally do not baptize infants, as do most Christian denominations, due to their belief that a person must be old enough to make a public profession of faith in order to be baptized.
Another feature of most Baptist churches is that they operate on the congregational governance system, which gives autonomy to individual local Baptist churches. Baptists have traditionally avoided the "top-down" hierarchy which is found in many Christian denominations, such as the Roman Catholic and Anglican churches.
I hope this helped you.

By joining a Baptist Church. Of course, Baptists believe certain things. Two primary beliefs that set Baptists apart come to mind: One, believers baptism by immersion, and two, the security of the believer.

The church you go to.Plus a baptist denomination shouldn't be involved in any kind of ritualistic activities.Baptist denominations should be telling it like it is,straight from the word of God.
No communion,because it's not needed.
No confessing of sins to a priest or pastor, only God himself.
No walking through mazes to get closer to God.
The only symbolic ritual that should ever occur in a baptist church is baptism.Symbolic of having your sins washed away by the blood of Christ.
Baptist churches should be preaching and teaching straight from the word. Not teaching cotton candy Christianity just to satisfy the masses.
