what area are you in?

I only know of two teachers that train realistically one in NY one in DC. I am certain there are more, but I have not come across them in my travels. I don't train much sword anymore.

I would reccomend against learning from a book or video or website. They can't see you. The most important function of a teacher is to correct your mistakes and offer personalized advice. Also sword or any MA is not something you can learn alone you need to train against someone with resistance. If two people train weapons against each other, and neither knows what they are doing it usually turns into LARPing with fake made up moves that work against an untrained person but not against someone who really knows how to use that weapon.

The best advice I can give you (even if I can't reccomend a teacher) is to find a teacher.

Someone beat me to it.

While it IS possible to learn swordsmanship on one's own, it is impossible to train from online sources. A lot of people post a lot of useless junk on the Internet, and considering that the sources used to cerate some martial arts websites are shaky at best, it is going to make for a worthless training, and the moment you come up with anyone who has been formally trained, you will be done like dinner.

But as i said, it is possible to self-teach swordsmanship. I for one have been studying the German Longsword for a few years now. But I did not work from a single source. I started with books from several known masters. Then, I sat down with other swordsmen, not necessarily studying the same style, and worked through the plates and the captions to figure out how things were done. And from there, I started drilling.

But really, things really took off when I came across a guy who was doing hte same thing and we had a chance to compre notes, so to speak.

Look for an wushu dojo in your area cause it's very hard to teach it without a master.I know how to use it quite well but I couldn't have learned it without an instructor
