Yes, a four month old is definitely adoptable. I've adopted adult cats, so I'd surely find a kitten adoptable.
Lots of people look for older kittens because they think they will be easier to take care of than let's say and 8 or 10 week old kitten.
If you feel it's not working out, the best thing for everyone involved would be to bring the kitten back. It does take a while for everyone to get acclamated though, if that's the reason for the stress. But you know your situation better than anyone. If it's not going to work out, then bring the kitten back so that someone else can adopt her.

how long have you had the kitten? things may settle in time.. sometimes it can take a while for everything to get back to normal when a new addition enters the family. Have you considered getting a big play cage for your kitten? big enough to put a bed, kitty litter, maybe a couple of levels and scratch posts in there so when it's getting stressful you can put him in there? Kittens can be trying but they do grow up and calm down so you may want to stick it out? 4 months isn't too old to be adoptable but they already have so many excess kittens/cats at shelters it would be a better idea for you to try to re-home your kitten privately like advertising in a paper, internet classifieds or asking friends/relatives if they want a kitten or know anyone who does. I would maybe try that first before you take him back. At least then, if you do find him a home, you won't have to worry about him not being adopted or him going into a cage etc.

Four months is still pretty little and cute. Someone will surely adopt him. Yes, your own stress is reason enough to return him. People that have more pets than they can handle inadvertently cause suffering because each one isn't getting the attention it requires. It may make you feel better to make an additional donation or bring along some supplies when you take him back. Call the humane society before you go back and ask them what they need the most.

why why why and how can one more animal be so stressful, she's a kitten and will play the older cat needs to just get use to her and will show your kitten that she's in charge. No your own stress is not good reason to give back the kitten why not relax and enjoy the kitten

4 months old is not un-adoptable.. I adopted all mine when they were over 1 year.. I would never adopt a kitten (too much work)
If he is up to date on shots thats even better
I would rather see you return him than resent him... although its true a pet is for life.. sometimes reality doesnt work that way..

If i were searching for an adoptable cat age would not be a factor as long as it was affectionate and not an old cat. Your kitten is not "old".

I think it is cruel for the little kitten since he already sees you as his family. Please don't do it.

Take him back and don't try again - it's not fair to the adoptees.
