This has turned out to be a long answer. I hope you find time to read it, you might find it very interesting.
Faith is described in the Bible as the assured expectation of things hoped for, even though the realisation of that hope is not immediately apparent. There are certain parts of the Bible that speak about things which make us feel that the entire book has been inspired by someone much wiser than us, including aspects to do with day-to-day living, prophecy, etc. When we see that these things have a solid, true feel to them, the parts (prophecies particularly) that have not yet been fulfilled must be a certainty. Specifically, if prophecies have been fulfilled in the past, are being fulfilled now, why not in the future too? It IS a mater of faith, mind you.
A great illustration I heardf in this regard had to do with horse racing:
An expert in horse racing that you have known for years comes to you from time to time with names of horses that are going to win. At first, all the horses have fairly short odds. Evens, 2-1,3-1, up to maybe 15 or 20 to 1.
In the beginning, you put a pound or two on whatever horse is tipped to win. It doesn't matter too much to you at the time. You're not really losing money you can't afford to lose. When you back these horses, you find that they win.
Then, you start thinking that if you had put more money on, you would have won more. So, when the tipster comes with another recommendation, you put more money on, the horse wins and you gleefully go to collect your winnings.
Eventually, the tipster starts recommending horses with longer odds. 50-1, 100-1, 250-1. You are doubtful, but you make the bets with small handfuls of cash. You are amazed when each of the horses win. Pretty soon, you're rolling in it.
At one point, the tipster comes to you and says: "Right, this is the big one. I've found a horse that's been given odds of 1000-1. I want you to sell everything you've got and use all your savings, all your winnings and put everything on this horse. You'll never need to gamble or work again."
What would you do? The risk is that you'll lose everything if the horse doesn't win. Experience tells you, though, that the horse must surely win. It would be a matter of faith, how much you believe the information you've recieved.
The gambler in the story does what he is told. although he is extremely doubtful, even petrified.
When the race starts, the 1000-1 horse is left in the stalls. (How would you fell now? Worried?) Only when some seconds have passed by, does the horse bolt from the stalls. The race is half way through, and the horse is still well behind. (How would feel at this point? Foolish?) At this point the gambler is freaking out. However, with a short distance to go, the horse starts catching up. It begins to make it's way up the field. But it's all too late. It comes in second, missing out on the win by several lengths. (What's going through you're mind now?)
The gambler collapses deflated and dreadfully and painfully depressed. Just then, a stewards inquiry is announced. After half an hour or so, the winner is disqualified through a technical infringement. The Gambler has won. (What would you be doing at this point?)
It was desparate situation, but the Gambler had faith in the tipster and did what he was told to do. The gambler's faith was based on the evidence of previous tips given to him by the tipster.
Similarly, back in the real world, a living faith makes us say, think and do things based on what we see as hard evidence, our personal experience.
Blind faith is different. it will make people do things based on no evidence at all. They're just told what to say, think and do and they do it without necessarily thinking logically about what they're being told.

Religious faith is blind faith as it is based on no evidence, that is why we call religious belief faith, if we had evidence for religious belief we would not need faith to believe it or need to call it faith.
Anything can be believed through faith alone, it is not a valid tool of knowledge for this reason, belief in fairies would be blind belief, or belief in God or the Celestial Teapot. There is no evidence to prove or disprove any of them and all are as likely to exist or not exist but all can be believed through faith alone.
We can believe and have faith in evidenced things, things that are demostrably so and that we can show evidence for - faith that unless there is a problem then water will flow from a tap when it is turned on, or that the sun will shine tomorrow as the Earth turns to face it where you are.
Faith without evidence is blind faith and then there is evidenced faith.

Blind faith is ignorance. Faith is knowing for a fact and not needing to see before believing.

Blind faith is accepting things without questioning anything about it.
Faith is accepting things that are still out side of our understanding, because we trust the one informing us. That is how it should be with Christians, we learn to trust God and the Bible because of the things we have found to be true, and we have faith in God and the Bible for those things that we do not yet understand or have.

True faith is based on experience. It doesn't have to be religious. It can be faith in yourself or your skills.
Blind faith is a belief that you believe in because you accept the authority of an external source other than yourself.

Blind faith has no proof and evidence of existence. Faith on the other hand has proof of existence(miracles), works and character.
