Platelets are small round, or oval discs about 2-4 micrometers in diameter. They play an important role in blood coagulation, hemostasis, and thrombus formation. When a small vessel is injured, platelets adhere to each other and to the edges of the injury and forms a plug which covers the area.

Platelets are a type of cell in the blood (along with red and white cells). They are the clotting agent in blood and make scabs and stuff when you get cut. If you have too few, it'll be harder to clot and scab and you may bleed or bruise very easily. Too many can clot veins and arteries.

They are tiny pieces of cells that come from the division of megakaryocytes. They play the leading role in the processes of blood clotting and clot withdrawal. They also contribute to the structural integrity of the blood vessel's walls and repair them when necessary. I don't remember the normal values of blood platelets, but if their number is too low this can result in spontaneous bleeding. If the number is too high, the condition can lead to thrombosis which means that blood starts clotting spontaneously in your blood vessels (really bad situation)
