D.O.=dr. of osteopathy.almost like an M.D.They can do everything that an M.D.does.They usually have less schooling, though. We used to call 'em DOA's.They believe alot of problems emanate from bones. They do manipulations.Like a cross between a chiropractor & G.P.

Both chiropractors and osteopaths look at the links between the muscle and skeletal systems and practice spinal manipulation.
However, an osteopath is a physician, who may prescribe drugs and perform surgery, while a chiropractor may not. Three years of college-level science courses are required for entry to a chiropractic college, but an osteopathic doctor must complete 4 years and an internship.

My entire family was delivered by Osteos. and we have always gone to them.
Aside from the DO after their names I really don't know the difference. I had to look at the definition to be sure.
We do try to avoid excessive meds. Osteopaths years ago gave adjustments similar to a Chiropractor (which I go to monthly to stay bone and muscle healthy) My Family practitioner (a DO) has one of his colleagues that does all of the adjustments in his office.
I'm not sure the average person would actually notice any difference.

A doctor of osteopathy (D.O.) goes through 4 years of residency training during which they learn about natural and homeopathic medicine as well as traditional medicine. Furthermore, they also have a working knowledge of other general practice, such as chiropratic, podiatry, and dentistry.
