The first thing you need to do is make an appointment with a dentist for an exam. Tell them you just want x-rays and an examination. The dentist will then tell you what you need done. If he procedes to give you a list of things that total thousands of dollars, let him know that you want to take it one step at a time. Ask him what the most important issues are right now.
He'll probably refer you to have some teeth extracted (if they're bad) or to have them cleaned (if they're not so bad). At your cleaning, the hygienest will remove all of the old, built up calculus from your teeth. And she and the dentist will determine if there are any cavitites that were hidden under there. They will then tell you how many cavities and such you have and what your next step will be. Get things done as you can. Prevention is the best way to avoid more trouble in the future!
Make sure to have your teeth cleaned every 6 months.
Good luck!

Here are some suggestions to help heal your gums and save the teeth you have.

I know you may not want to, but you have to work to have healthy teeth and gums.

1. Get Hydrogen Peroxide from the pharmacy. It is very cheap. Take a mouth full and brush your teeth with it and let it bubble the junk out of your gums. Use it at least morning and night.
After you floss your teeth may bleed and hurt so mouth wash with the peroxide it will heal the pain almost instantly.

2. Floss (use flat floss) and Brush your teeth with baking soda and toothpaste using a good quality brush, to get the surfaces VERY clean. Brush for a minute at least. Do this morning and night.

3.Get a mouth wash that is ANTI BACTERIAL.
bacteria in your mouth cause the gum infections and serious root problems and lose of teeth. Use this morning and night.

YOU MUST DO THIS EVERY DAY TO GET YOUR MOUTH AS HEALTHY AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN BY YOURSELF.

Start saving money and make an appointment to the Dentist for an exam and a cleaning. Flossing daily will reduce the excessive plaque that builds up on and between teeth to allow disease down into the gums. I use the little wooden flat toothpick like things from the dental department (they are in a folder like a match book). They are wedge shaped and can be forced between your teeth to help remove plaque.

Do this every day for a month , within the first week your mouth should be MUCH better.

Just make it a daily habit, this should save your teeth, hopefully.

No sodas, or sweets, they cause much of this problem.

Good Luck Be diligent.

You should go to the dentist. If you don't have insurance I would look into getting some or looking into a state program if you can't afford it. If you have already done that and still nothing I have one other suggestion for you.

There is a company that offers dental benefits for only $11.95 a month for an individual and $19.95 a month for an entire household. They save you up to 80% on your dental needs.
Along with the dental you get Free vision, Free Presciption Drugs and Free Ciropractic benefits.

I would be careful though when looking into a health benefits company. A lot of them do not save you money and they have very few providers. The company I am talking about has been in business for 14yrs, BBB members and have over 1.5 million customers.

Below is the site if you would like to check it out.
Good luck with everything.

Some people have more dental issues than others do....find a dentist your comfortable with....ask about payment plans...treat the most important stuff first ( like if your in any pain ) I'm sure that you know how to practice good oral hygiene, just keep up with that. You may need several appointments with your dentist, be patient and don't worry about other people's teeth, just take care of yourself.....good luck!!!!
