My husband says he feels bored with his prayer life. He feels that he prays the same things over and over can't seem to think of other things or people to pray for other than those he already prays for. First of all, do you think it's ok to pray the for the same people and things continually ( I don't mean the rosary or anything like that) I mean from his heart, or do you think he needs to refresh his prayer time somehow? If so, how?

Tell him to make a list of things he usually prays over, then try to make a new list. Then combine them. Tell him not to forget to pray for the sick, the dying, the hungry, our soldiers, our government, etc. There is nothing wrong with praying for the same people everyday, however, satan is trying to discourage him from praying by telling him it's boring.

It's OK to pray for the same things over and over again. I do it all the time. If he wants a refreshed prayer life. I would suggest finding knew things for him to pray for even if they seem small. He could take prayer request. Reading the Bible is also a form of prayer. He could read the Bible as he prays. Maybe saying little prayers throughout the day might help. Sometimes when I see something that is beautiful I stop real quick and thank God for it. I will be praying for you and your husband. God bless

I have suffered recently with the same thing... It sort of felt like a mental block. Something that helped me and might be useful for him is to get away for a day. One Sunday afternoon, I drove about fifty miles to this beautiful forest and went for a hike... Alone. I turned my cell phone off and just went and enjoyed God's creation. I feel like that helped me a great deal.

Sometimes, it just takes getting down on your knees and praying THROUGH the block... I try to think of my friends, my enemies, other churches in my area, my family, and especially the government during my prayers.

As an Episcopalian, I also often use the Book of Common Prayer which is available at your local Episcopal Church, your local bookstore, and probably at your local library. It is an excellent prayer guide. It has specific prayers that you can use, as well as prayer outlines that allow you the freedom to pray, but give you excellent ideas as to what to pray for.

I hope this helps!

When a child goes to his dad and ask for a piece of candy and he tells you ok you can have it when I feel you are deserving, and 10 minutes later the child returns and has done may be one thing that dad asked him to do but not all, and yet ask again. Dad will more than likely say, "don't you remember what I said not even 10 minutes ago?"

The child goes back does one to two more things and returns and ask one more time for that same piece of candy. Dad this time will more than likely become frustrated and say, " since you keep asking and you have not done everything I have told you to do you will not get anything."

This is my opinion of prayer my kids do it to me all the time, and I tell them the more you ask the longer it will take me to give it to you, you are acting like you didn't believe or hear me the first time! We pray in faith knowing that God knows what we need before we need it.

Prayer is one of the ways to build a relationship with God. But think about it if you are constantly praying for the same things does that really show faith? Pray and know that God heard you the first time and he will come through according to your faith.

You can never run out of people or things to pray about with so many things going on in the world today. Get a list of church members, or pray for peace an end to violence and war there are many things to pray for.

There is nothing wrong with continually praying for the same people and things. However, if your husband has become bored with his prayer life, perhaps he should try this: At the beginning of his prayers, he should give just a brief summary of those things that have become repetitive and boring to him. After that, instead of asking God something, he should try praising Him. An easy way to do this is using what I call the Praise ABC's. Starting with the letter "A," think of a word that praises the Lord (amazing, awesome, almighty, etc.). He doesn't have to do this often, but it will probably break the monotony of his prayers.

Hope this helps.

It sounds like your husband is a conscientious man who is praying for those things he feels are most important. I don't think there is any problem with praying for the same things, as long as it is a sincere prayer from the heart and not just a memorized recitation. For example, I pray for my family every day, and will always do so, because they are the most important thing in my life. There is nothing wrong with this IMO. :-)

Lord teach your people how to pray.

I never tire of prayer but I get anxious sometmes for result.

Your husbands spirit is anxious. Prayer for the best part should begin and end with thanksgiving to the Lord.

The Lord already knows what you need prayer for.

Prayer is boring when one has not developed selflessness.

Prayer is boring when the mind is on earthly things and not in touch with the soul.

Prayer is not boring. The mind has not been transformed

Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.

I've felt this way before. One thing that has helped me is praying the scriptures. God's words are the most powerful ones and there's something totally refreshing about speaking his words and promises back to Him.

Also I recommend a book called "Prayers that Prevail" it is filled with prayers that are simply scriptures put together. In general I don't like books of prayers but this book has changed my prayer life simply because the prayers are not made from just man's words (which i can do my self) but the prayers are straight scripture and you can almost feel the power in them.

Blessings to you.

Does he get any of his prayers answered?
If yes, then take some time to thank God for those victories!

Also ask God to help lead you (him) in your prayer time.
Ask for the leading (and infilling, if you do not have it) of the Holy Ghost.

Remember to repent at times also as our sins can block our prayers.

Ask people to pray for your prayer life also, so that God will give you more power in this area.

Prayer life? Is this some sort of cult behavior? Oh, you must be following sarcasm which says we should pray without ceasing, as if Jesus never existed or a God who needs to be told who to care about. Neither is true you know, or at least you suspect its truth. What then? He could actually work himself at making the world better for others, Why not suggest he put action in place of prayer?
