An opinion is only worth the information upon which it is based. If you offer an opinion on time travel but know nothing about it, then it's not worth hearing. Some people offer the most ignorant and out dated opinions ever thought of.
ie: all women should stay home and stay pregnant; or all men are pigs; or people with low incomes shouldn't get the same quality of work from a renovator as rich people get; or black peoples is ignernt and layzee; etc.
Education, information and lucid thought will get you a respectable opinion to offer.

Our culture does NOT encourage truth and honesty!

Consider that the very DEFINITION of "polite" requires a level of deception.

If human interactions were founded on honesty, we would not have any need for "social skills"- only "a good reputation". In our society, more often than not, one only gets to a good reputation by decieving people with such excellence that their actual nature cannot be discerned!

If honesty and public dialogue were important to this culture people would not watch horror films. People would not go to church. People would not pretend to like each other just so they could get along.

Honesty is taboo. Opinions halt pleasant conversations faster than farts.

I suppose because some people just can't stand the thought of others believing differently than they do, so they come here and try to tear down those differing beliefs by insulting and ridiculing the believers.

It seems juvenile to me, perhaps it's just a sign of lack of self-confidence?

Some opinions do stink like bad breath or dung.

Generally, what is being objected to is when one shootd off the mouth without engaging brain. Discretion still remains the better course to take.
