I agree that you need to talk with a doctor about this. I have had fairly severe scoliosis since I was a child, but was lucky in that I have a "double" curve -- and the second curve balances out the first one. So although my spine is crooked, my hips are level and my legs the same length, though I do have problems with back strain and disc slippage.

I know people who have had the surgery as adults and it was not what one would call a pleasant experience. They were "casted" for about a year and are still in major pain. You probably need to do some serious thinking before choosing that as an alternative. Good luck!

I don't have adult scoliosis but I did when I was a kid. I did have surgery to correct mine. I really didn't have an option. It was either have the surgery or become wheelchair bound by the time I become a teenager. I didn't have rods put in mine. I have surgical hooks that hold my spine in place. They took out one of my rib bones, part of my hip bone and used it to hold my spine in place. Also, I had five vertebrae fused inside and out so it prevented it from growing. Granted I am 5'9", I could of been over 6 ft tall, but I would have to go through another surgery. I would say go through the surgery. It helped me but depending on the severity of your scoliosis, recovery time varies.

What exactly do you mean by bad? How many degrees is your curve(s)? What are you experiencing at the moment? There are so many other questions which need to be answered. The best would be for you to sit down and discuss your scoliosis with your orthopedist. You will only get more confused if you pose your questions here.

i am an adult too... and i have scoliosis! my left hip and leg are 3 inch about my right. it causes severe pinched nerves in my back. but i have no clue if it helps when your an adult, i know it is a great cure if you young. i just have a lift in my shoes and see a chiropractor twice a week. and he pretty much keeps me in check. maybe you should talk to a chiropractor about have surgery as an adult.
