I will be traveling this weekend and my dog is going with us. He is 35 pounds and is a spaniel/collie mix. He has never been on a plane before. I read it is not good to give them sedatives, but I want him to be relaxed on the plane.

If he is 35 pounds he will be (as you know) in the cargo hold, although it's relatively safe it is pretty traumatic. You should check with your vet, a mild sedative will really be best for the dog.

You will need an air kennel, available at most pet stores or through the airlines. It will need to be a little larger than your dog in the standing position. It will need a small water cup on the inside of the door. You will need a complete copy of the dogs shots and health records from your vet. Check with the airlines before you attempt to take the dog on your flight. If the temperature at the departing airport is below or below their standard, or if the temperature at the arriving airport is not within their allowances, they will not ship the dog.

My dogs is a mixed breed. he's now 14 and in stable wellbeing. the only time he's had to bypass to the vet apart from imagery is by using the fact he as quickly as fell off of my mattress while i grow to be at paintings, he likes to play there, and he broken a disc in his backbone. different then that, he's in super shape. Herding is organic for some canines. this is genetic. They have been bred for that and so this is instinct no count if experienced to do it or no longer. If the herding play looks ok so a tactics, i think of this is gorgeous yet, if the dogs is actual attempting to herd your grandson, he would nip at him so which you would be able to would desire to offer up that. As for rubbing his ears immediately, that would irritate the dogs at circumstances. i may well be careful with that one. i do no longer think of a dogs might like that. As for the barking. some canines bark and a few do no longer. You sound like your dogs is principally an outdoors dogs and so it may well be annoying to regulate the barking. My dogs only barks while he needs a handle or if I tell him to speak. My acquaintances dogs barked as quickly as while she grow to be approximately 10 weeks previous and has in no way as quickly as barked in view that that. She's now 15. some canines bark and others do no longer.

"...not good to give sedatives"????
It's fing DANGEROUS!!!! Could KILL the damn thing!!!!!

Don't ANTHROPOMORPHISE! Dogs have NO CONCEPT of flight;it's NO different than being inna truck or car or any other transport! THOUSANDS of live animals are shipped DAILY.

Is it used to being crated? That's all it needs.

Do you have ALL the NECESSARY PAPERWORK??? You'd sure feel like a fool if they wouldn't take it cuz you forgot that.
