Author Rebecca West, had a long term affair, with a much older H.G. Wells and produced a child, out of wedlock.

West met Wells in 1913, and their affair lasted ten years. Their illegitimate son, was Anthony West. Wells was already married (for the second time). West is also said to have had affairs with Charlie Chaplin and newspaper magnate, Max Beaverbrook.

Dame Rebecca West, DBE was the pseudonym of Cicely (she later changed it to "Cicily") Isabel Fairfield (December 21, 1892- March 15, 1983).
