Having asked a previous question on this topic and took some of the Users Advice, i installed anitvirus, still the screen didn't appear. I tried opening it using the ''run'' program but a message appeared saying another program was using it. I think i have some sort of virus. anyone know what i can do?

From a Windows Annoyance link, I got this: Do a System Restore to a day or so before this happened. Your system had or has a worm, and antivirus won't remove it. The quickest way is the restore. Click on Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools and system Restore. Pick a date that is bolded. this will remove your antivirus, but once the system is restored, restart the computer and download the antirvirus again.

the anti virus may not have been such a good idea in itself. av almost invariably slows down ur computer, especially if u play games.

try to get something like Norton Systemworks. U open up their utilities programme and it sorts out windows or disc problems. i know it is extra expense but i think it is worth it. alternatively, look in a computer magazine and they sometimes have backup discs and other discs to troubleshoot problems. it is a lot cheaper that way!

It really sound to me that u have programme conflicts and this is often because of invalid shortcuts, easily sorted out by the Norton Systemworks. they happen all the time and they cause ur computer to be slow, to crash or for some programmes to simply not work.

have a look on the Norton systemworks web site.

good luck.

I don't know what you can do with a virus, but to try to close it within task manager you can close task manager, if it says it is being used.. try uninstalling the virus scanner and reinstalling it, check if that is your problem.
