This morning when i woke up. i noticed alot of watery blood everywhere. All in the cat littler and trails of it around the house. After checking all my cats. I noticed it was coming from my male cat Archie. I think its blood in his urine thats coming out and he doesnt seem to be able to controll it. My other cats are hissing at him constantly and they are all usually so friendly towards one another. Archie keeps hiding and apprears to be ibn alot of pain so i phoned the vet. Ive got an appointment in 5 hours time and they cant see him sooner. My vet didnt seem too worried but i am. Im scared its cancer or something. Does anyone here know what it might be? Hes only a year old and is an indoor cat only and has been in excellent health untill now. Ill let you know what the vet says to me but any suggestions in the meantime would be appreciated. Fingers crossed hes going to be ok

This sounds like a urinary track problem and if so is real easy to clear up with antibiotics. My female cat is having the same problem at the moment and the vet prescribed Synulox (not cheap) which did clear up the problem. If this is what is wrong with your cat do not stop giving the pills even if it appears to of cleared up as it may well come back. Mine has 4 weeks later. Not got any other ideas I am afraid but if your vets not worried you should try not to be. It would be a very extreme sign to show if it was cancer I would think other symptoms would show first. Don't try to over do the attention you show your cat, if he is in distress in any way and you try to comfort him it will make him think there is a reason to be upset so may upset him further. If your other cats are hissing at him they probably realise something is not quite right and if your giving him more affection at the moment it will not help.
Good luck a the vet and I do hope it is nothing too serious.

it sounds as ho hes got a urinary infection such as cystitis. which will show signs of straining and heamaturea (blood in the urine). this is easily cleared up by antibiotics and sometimes fluid therapy.
I'm surprised your vet isn't to worried this is an emergency situation as he could have a much worse condition such as a obstructed urethra this is when crystals/casts obstruct the tube coming from the badder to the penis.
he is dripping urine due to a overflow mechanism the bladder has to prevent bursting when the bladder is too full and not being emptied.
the bladder is made of transitional epithelial cells so stretch allowing the bladder to expand. when the bladder is too full this mechanism allows urine to leak out so not to burst.
ring the vets and get an emergency consult its not worsth the risk if is something serious. this can be serious and if pronged can cause short or permanent damage causing incontinence.
he is probably very uncomfortable and getting upset.
ring the vet and move appoint forward.
hope hes ok.

It may only be a serious bladder infection, that has gotten worse, and caused blood to appear in the urine.
Not to scare you, but it could be a symptom of leukemia, Yes cats can get this, But dont fret, too much. Most of the time, blood in the urine, is a infection, easily treated with antibiotics from the Vets. Your cats are hissing at him, because they sense he is sick, and reject him coming near. Most animals do this. I hope everything goes well for you and your sick kitty today at the vets.

I'd say it's very unlikely that it is cancer, the symptoms would not come on so suddenly (and he's quite young). It's most likely a urinary tract infection, as suggested by others. The antibiotics will clear it right up and he'll be fine. I'd recommend while you're at the vets to get an ultrasound or x-ray to check for bladder stones.

Good luck!

So sorry to hear that but I think it might not be that serious. But if it is so sorry. what you should do is keep him isolated from the other cats. If hes been in excellent health until now, it might not be something that doesn't occur naturally. I just really hope it isn't cancer or anything like that either. Let me know what the vet says when he comes back. Keep your fingers crossed. :)

It's probably a bladder infection or possibly kidney stones. most infections are bacterial and can be treated by an extended course of antibiotic tablets. it's very important to get him to the vet as soon as possible. and once you begin the medication -- do not miss any doses and stay on a schedule. keep the litter box clean too. I am currently treating my female Australian Cattle Dog for this condition. She had all the symptoms you've described in your cat. Scooter has been on meds for 2 weeks and is feeling wonderful and happy now. Best of luck to you!

Hi Beckie...he may likely have a lower urinary tract infection. Blood in urine is a common symptom: http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_feline_lower_urinary_tract_dis.html

It's good you are taking him in this afternoon. Consider mentioning about Archie dietary habits. Dry food is one contributing factor for why cats get lower urinary tract infections. Caned food diets help provide much needed hydration. The vet will recommend along with antibiotics how to better manage this so there is less chance of recurrence.

Without question, go to the vet. Just wondering though, have you been feeding the cats cheap cat food? (Or worse yet, dog food?) If so stop, dog foods and some cheaper cat foods contain too much ash.(The high concentration in dog food helps keep the dog's teeth clean). However, cats can't handle these high concentrations and it can aggravate their kidneys. I think cat food should contain no more than 3 or 4 percent (some dog foods can contain 60 percent!)

It's probably only a minor infection that antibiotics can sort out. Make sure your cat takes plenty of water by drinking or in wet food. Be warned, he may pee where he shouldn't whilst he's like this. Hope it gets better soon

He may have a urinary tract infection. If that's the case, they will just give him some medication and he will be fine. Just wait and see your vet says, the cat is young so chances are he will be fine.
