I took my 8 wk old puppy to the vet today for shots and they gave her a worm pill. A couple hours later from getting home from the vet she had an accident in our house. She pooped in my daughters room, and it looked like it had lots of cooked spaghetti noodles on top of it. So, I called my vet and she said good, it looks like she's getting rid of the worms. Well, she's pooped 5 times since then and they are still coming out. When will this stop? And is this contagious to people? Thanks, this is my first puppy and don't know alot about them.

You can get worms from a dog. Carefully clean up the poop and bleach your hands after you do. Use clorox on the spots that the pup has pooped and clorox will kill the eggs. The pup must have been really infected. Usually within 12-24 hours the worms will be gone. have the pup rewormed again in 2 weeks to keep from reinfestation.

Dog Has Worms In Poop

The worms that she's pooping out are dead or dying. It will probably be necessary to repeat the treatment (I do my puppies 3 times at one week intervals), until the worms stop appearing. It's not a bad idea to have a fecal test done every 6 months as a precaution.

The main thing is to keepyour daughter away from the poop, which you do anyways I'm sure :-).

If you are concerned about your daughter or yourself, you could always talk to your doctor about being tested for worms. However, most people have some intestinal parisites already, whether they have pets or not.

Firstly - having large amounts of worms in the stool would normally be a sign that the worming medication is taking effect - healthy intestinal worms (probably hook worms or round worms from your description) attach to the lining of the intestine and feed from there, while they reproduce by releasing eggs into the stool which are then ingested by a new host. It is common for puppies to carry relatively large worm burdens.

Secondly, many intestinal parasites of dogs will infect humans, through ingestion of viable eggs. For that reason good hygiene practices are important. Normal soap and water should be sufficient in removing any eggs from hands. It should be noted that dog faeces contains other nasties besides worm eggs - faecal coliform bacteria for example. Hands should be washed as usual - before eating/smoking/drinking/handling foods etc etc..

However it is still important to regularly worm your dog (ask your vet about appropriate schedules and dosage, though puppies require regular treatments every couple of weeks for the first few months, and adults require ongoing treatment at least every 3 months); allwormers are also available for your family and are important for human children as well.

There are other important ongoing preventative treatments as well - if you live in an area where mosquitoes and canine heartworm is present you should treat your dog once a month with a suitable product; regular annual vaccinations will protect your dog from life-threatening (and expensive) diseases such as kennel cough, distemper and parvovirus; a flea treatment (such as frontline or advantage) will keep your dog happy and your house flea-free. All these treatments do cost a fair bit, but they are expenses that can be budgetted for and do help prevent more costly curative treatment (and heartbreaking decisions) later on. Your vet should be able to advise you on suitable treatments and schedules; if not find another vet!

Some of the parasites that inflict puppies are transmittable to humans, such as pin-worms, tape worms. Clean the area where the puppie has "oops" with bleach, and wash your hands every time you touch the pup with a good anti-bacterial soap. Your daughter should, also. Check periodically for worms in the feces ( a week or so) and return to the vet if it doesn't clear up right away. Good luck with your new friend, I hope he brings you and yours many years of joy!

There are a few real keys to dog training, whether you are trying to train your dog to come when called, sit, stop barking or any other behavior. Understanding their importance is critical to achieving rapid results that are long lasting and help develop the bond between you and your dog. Read more here https://biturl.im/aU7UD

The first is simple; you must win your dogs mind. If you don't achieve this first then you will be struggling the all the way. When I talk about winning your dogs mind what I really mean is that your dog looks to you for all the decisions. Before you do anything else watch one of the amazing video sites that show you the 5 Golden rules to establishing yourself as the pack leader. If you aren't putting these in place then you are setting yourself up to fail. Just at the crucial point where you really want your dog to listen they will go and do their own thing. For sure your dog may play ball occasionally or even most of the time, you may even have a dog that is obedient 99% of the time, however if you want a dog who always listens to you and does as you ask then you need to win your dogs mind.

The second key to success is to motivate your dog. It is really important that you discover what it is that your dog enjoys both in terms of exercise and play but also in terms of a reward. If you can make the experience enjoyable then you will both achieve more and look forward to training.

Some dogs love to fetch, others love agility, and other dogs simply love obedience training, or swimming out into water and retrieve. At least to start with find out what your dogs love is and help them develop this, what I am saying is work with your dog. The other point to recognize is to make training enjoyable reward your dog.

I would not worry about it its not very likely, Those are round worms, puppys are full of them, You can buy liquid round wormer from walmart, pet stores, use according to directions because puppies get a lot of worms, but still keep up the vet visits. Good luck with your puppy I have 3 and they are so much fun and grow to be such trusted friends.
