I'm just wondering what other people think of their children's teachers. Do you have any problems with them, do you think they cater for needs well, what is your general opinion about the work they do?

Our family loves my daughter's 4th grade teacher. She was also my daughter's 3rd grade teacher. The teacher was moving up to 4th grade and each family was given the option to move to 4th grade with the same teacher. The entire class moved, except for one student who moved out of the school district. There are many great teachers and she is one of them. She is only in her 4th year teaching, but is doing excellent work. She is creative, fair, conscientious, energetic, and humble. We have had no problems at all with our daughter's teacher. We have been parents for 27 years and have had at least one child in the public school system since Fall 1984. We have a great school district in a great small town. Most of the teachers are dedicated, hard-working individuals who give a lot of their own time and money to the students. I, for one, appreciate the job that they do. As a parent, I try to work in partnership with the schools by asking what I can do to help, volunteering time in the classroom, and being informed of the school's policies.

I was very nervous about my child's teacher at first. She is fresh out of college and this is her first year teaching and my son has PDD which is in the Autism spectrum (but mild yet hyper so he is on Ritalin as well for ADHD type symptoms). I was scared she would be clueless and not have any idea on how to handle him. But after working with her very closely she has been very good. She still is learning but is very open to any ideas I may have on classroom modification and communicates with me on everything so I'm never in the dark on what is going on in the classroom (my son is in 1st grade). She sends me a special behavior chart home each day with him so I can monitor what his behavior is like in the classroom so we can work on it at home. He has homework every night which I think is good (sometimes takes 5 min to do or 20 min depending). That way he is getting used to the work that will be sure to come as he reaches the older grades. With the teacher being so young (21 or 22) and fresh out of college I think she has more of a "I can change the world attitude" and can relate better to the kids rather than someone who has been teaching for numerous years and is burnt out with the kids and their job. Hopefully as he continues his school career I can keep finding the teachers that are willing to help him and turn him into the success I know he will become!

I've had great experiences and horrible experiences with my children's teachers. Most of them are wonderful -- it's obvious they enjoy teaching. They've been able to balance discipline with enjoyment -- guiding the students to enjoy learning.

There have been a few that have made me wonder why....why do they teach? why do they teach children - when they obviously don't have the patience for them. why be so condescending?... One of my kids had a teacher that would jump up and down screaming at the students (middle school age) when she was frustrated. What does that teach the kids? Another would call the students in the class stupid and idiots.... all of the parents had many, many meetings with the administration to no avail.

I guess it those nasty ones that make us appreciate the wonderful teachers even more!

I am a child but I can still answer, Cause I am there , they arent.

I do have problems with some like my Spanish must think I am Mike Jones or something cause she always got my name in her mouth and she is always yelling at me for no reason. The others I am okay with on most days.

Yeah, they do cater to my needs.

I think they are doing a great job, except my Spanish teacher who makes it her point to make me angry and fustrated and send me to the office for stuff I dont even do.

I have been pretty satisfied with my children's teachers. My sons kindergarten's teacher does not give me the warm fuzzes, but he seams to like her. I am going to start helping out in his class this week, so maybe my opinion will change. I think my child's second grade teacher is great, a no nonsense kind of person.

I have always loved my oldest sons teachers, but this year is different. I dont like her at all, she is not friendly, she never smiles and she is just all around not helpful (my son has Aspergers Syndrome, so she is supposed to modify his work, etc..but doesnt understand anything about Autism and I feel Like she is thinking it is a waste of her time) THat is how I feel that she feels. I understand that she has other kids in the class, but she just does absolutely nothing to help him out. He is failing classes this year, where as the years before he was getting A's and B's. Sooo to make a long story short, no I dont care for her and to make things worse, I went to school with her all my life, since Kinder...I guess I didnt care for her then either.

I love my childs teacher this year! Last year, her teacher went crazy (really!) and had to leave in Dec, the whole year was a mess.
This year, she has the best teacher, kind, supportative, inspiring, fun. All teachers need to be like that. My child loves doing work.

Teachers, in general, are just there to do their job and leave. Most do not seem to have an interest in particular needs of the kids. There are too many for them to worry with, it seems.

I am very impressed with my child's teachers. I met most of them for the first time just recently. The majority were young, very enthusiastic, and certainly appeared to care what happened to him.

Not very good They are fairly young teachers who think they have all the answers because they read it in a book.
