feather are used by the birds to grab air and gain lift...
this know as adaptations..feather are there in a perticular formation that is from front to back which allows bouyancy for birds in the air.....

a) It is used to keep the baby of the bird warm.
b) It is used to keep the bird light during the flight.
c) It helps in the process of flying by increasing the surface area during flight.

Uses for feathers on a bird are to keep it warm, to attract mates, to camouflage and allow it to fly. Besides the birds uses of feathers, they, once no longer being used by a bird, can be used in crafts and adornments.

There are alot of differant kinds of feathers .I take it you mean after a bird molts and looses it or the things people can use them for .Differant kinds of birds have differant feathers and cvan all be used for differant things .I have alot of peacocks and their feathers Ive seen used for a border around the top of a room .I make tail sprays to hang on a wall out of them sometimes that are really pretty and neat that are about 5 ft in diameter and ht .They can be used for so many things from hat bands fishing lures I have had people buy them from me for so many differant uses .Only your imagination is the limit .Pillows and clothing its best to use duck or swan or goose feathers for .I have skinned birds out preserved the skin and meat in the wings and stapled them to a piece of plywwod to dry (such as wild turkeys geese and large birds ) then you can hang them on the wall with the wings spread out and its kind of a cheap method of taxidery that looks pretty neat .Hope this might help

hats,shoes
fancy pens and decoratives
jackets
can bunch them up to use as a duster
can be used o irritate a sleeping soul( insert it in ones nose or ear)
