Hey Charles,
You look like me... lol.
I believe that the internet is the Root of what will be 50 years from now. Education, Business, Manufacture, Home Management, Travel, will all be quite easy for us. You will not have to push buttons, keys, or TEXT on tiny buttons. You will simply speak to a yet uninvented gadget, that will interpret your request. That interpretation will manifest itself at your intent. If your intent was to purchase something, it will be done. If your intent was to learn who your 5th Great grandfather was, you will be told in an audible tone of your preference, and presented with any visual image on some Holigraphic device - also not yet invented. These gadgets will be cheap, light, easy to cary as a watch.
You will pay at the store with it, get paid on it, translate language with it, take and view pictures with it, play games with it, etc. And this will be founded on a base of organized networks currently known as the internet.
What will you have for diner, well, the gadget will tell you what you have to choose from, offer you a restraunt (they will still exist), and a variety of options at home.
That is my opinion, here are 4 camps of experts opinions.

There is no reason to think Internet will be gone; it's too essential now. Since its main attributes are easy access to knowledge and information, and breaking down of distance between individuals world-wide, I think it will continue to develop in that direction. So I imagine all homes will have at least one room that is an Internet Environment - the walls will be entirely screens for viewing the world; the ceiling could even have day/night-sky replicas to give one the universe perspective on one's life. The room will be voice activated - tailored to each family member's taste and needs. There will also be instantaneous translation into the language of the person one is conversing with. There could be options geared to our other senses - smell, taste, touch. Perhaps we could get a hug from a loved one while activating our computer's info-base re that person - their scent, pictures of their life, etc. Further to this universal connection theme, we could probably carry the Internet with us, too - just as we carry phones now (which have Internet already).

50 yrs from now?
Wow.
I was just thinking how much the Internet has evolved in 10 yrs!
In 50 yrs it will be so much a part of our lives that it will be difficult to imagine life without it.
Very much, I am sure, as television is today.
Within 50 yrs everything we do will be done electronically.
And I mean EVERYTHING.
Our lives will be totally infused with the internet.
It might be impossible for us to even imagine what the Internet will be able to do in 50 yrs.
I believe we will be able to carry around our computer for Internet access like people carry their wallets and purses today.
Not like laptops... but more like watches.
I think it will be less visual and more in the virtual reality form.
You will simply have to "speak" to it.
Stick in your little ear piece, put on your little glasses....and you are there!
We will constantly be tuned to news and events worldwide.
All information will simply be there upon demand.
I can even see how the Internet system will automatically be 'tuned-in' for kids when they enter their school buildings, like blocking certain access to certain things.
All their class schedules, lunch menus, homework lessons, study notes, etc will be available to them upon immediate request.
I also believe that 'virtual classrooms' will be made possible with the Internet of the future.
Like combining classrooms from all into one.
It would surely equalize the students learning.
Wow, there is so many different possibilities.
I seriously think that anything we could come up with now won't even touch what the Internet will be able to actually do in the future.
No one thought that your cell phone could take photos and send them across the world 10 yrs ago.
