If it is totally voluntary that you are not getting approximately 8 hours a day, then it is ok - not great - but ok. You may experience the symptoms noted by the other answerers.

However, if your lack of enough sleep is involuntary (insomnia, not able to get back to sleep once awakened, awakening during the night and being able to fall back asleep) it is a sign of your body trying to tell you it has something going wrong. Hyperinsulinemia, hypoglycemia, gluten intolerance, lactose intolerance, candida albicans overgrowth, and probably a lot of other systemic conditions can lead to inadequate or unrestful sleep.

Check out the symptoms page at www.hufa.org and see if you have any other symptoms of hypoglycemia.
