What can I do to help? I mean sometimes he'll be sleeping and all of asuden whine loudly and squirm ever so slightly. I don't know what to do. I'm worried he's scared to go to sleep because whenever he's sleeping on my bed or at night he doesn't sleep at all he just lays there. What's going on? I'm scared for my little Casper. (West Highland White terrier)

when a dog has dreamscapes, it could mostly be normal. If Casper does not squirm or whine when you hold her she should be alright.

It's not nightmares, I had the same problem and sought help from a vet, it is just a dream about anything, he could just be dreaming about chasing a cat and that is why he is squirming, he is whining because in his dream he is barking

Our dog ( mixed breed) has nightmares all the time. He starts whining and barking and acting like he's running. He even cries sometimes. We just gentily wake him up and reassure him. He was a shelter dog so we don't know he could be dreaming .

My boxer barks and squirms in her sleep sometimes. Doesn't cause any problems though.

how do you know he doesnt sleep?
anyway if he doesnt sleep, try hugging him while you sleep, or stroking him, or rubbing your nose against his cheek (they love this)
