with a paintball gun? l think it would make them look much prettier. Not that l have a paintball gun or indeed know where any hedgehogs currently live

Do you want to shoot them with the gun, or shoot them out of the gun? If you want to shoot them out of the gun, you will need to find a way to make your barrel bigger. If you just want to shoot them, at least give them a running start.

It would be an offence against the Wildlife and Countryside act. You aren't allowed to interfere with wild animals unless they are considered vermin and then you can kill them.
A paintball might not do you much damage but it could do serious harm to a small mamal, the methyl alcohol in the paint could also poison them.
And it wouldn't be funny or clever.
If you are in the UK it is also illegal to plan a crime, three guys have just gone to jail for planning a rape even though they never carried out the plan. I doubt they'd send you to Strangeways for planning to shoot a hedgepig with a paintball though... unless they decided to call it a firearms offence...

I think it would hurt them. They aren't very big. Maybe you could drop a paint balloon instead? I like the idea of pink and purple hedgehogs, personally, but I wouldn't recommend shooting them, because you might hurt the hedgehog :( Plus, they might be put in danger if they didn't have their natural coloring. :(

Check with your States hunting authorities. It would be listed in your yellow pages under State Government, Fish and Game. Personally, killing and cooking them in a pit full of hot coals seems like a better idea.

Lain L.....only to make clean, porcupines can no longer shoot quills in any way or style. The quills can come out as quickly as related to a diverse animal and the tip barbs lock onto the different animal. yet, no firing, capturing, blasting, or the like.

But don't be surprised if you have nightmares of huge hedgehogs coming after you with gallons of paint. Not pretty when the catch you...
