This one question "meaning of Life" is the most asked question on the Internet. Why?
Every Human Being wants to know and understand the Philosophy behind the meaning of Life! Why are we here... what is the purpose of our living on Mother Earth... what is the real meaning of Life? The queries are numerous... there has got to be a justification for our living. What is the basis of existence of Life on planet Earth?
Before we indulge into knowing "the meaning of Life" we need to understand Life itself. How do we differentiate between a mortal (living being) and an immobile material (having no Life within)? For this we need to start from the beginning of the Cosmos itself... The time of the big bang!
At the time of the big bang when God, the Almighty Creator which is but the size of half a thumb explodes itself... all Atmans (Souls) get scattered all over the cosmos and in doing this they lose their pristine purity and as a ball coated with honey gathers dust while rolling... these Atmans (Souls) also get impregnated with impurities. This is the fundamental cause of Life... if these Atmans (Souls) had remained pure all the time... the need for Life in whole of the cosmos would not have arisen.
These Atmans (Souls) in their cosmic journey now need a body so that they can purify themselves and come back to their original pristine form. These Atmans (Souls) do not have the power to purify themselves without the aid of any external body. They need a body to work out its Karma and in the process the dross within the Atman soul shall get removed.
Let me explain this further but before that I need to explain the definition of God.
At the time of pralaya as we call it in Hinduism (the time of complete dissolution of the cosmos)... the total cosmos which consists of many universes dissolves back into its original pristine form... this is the form we know as God, the Almighty Creator! The size of the whole cosmos at this moment of time is half the size of a thumb, which is nothing else, but the collection of all purified Atmans (Souls) in the cosmos.
For purifying themselves why do the Atmans (Souls) need a body? This feature can be explained further by the example of mining.
If I need to extract one KG of pure gold (say an individual purified Atman in its pristine pure form) from a lump of hundred KG of gold ore then I need to pass the lump of hundred KG of gold ore through the requisite mining process. It is absolutely clear that this one KG of pure gold can not on its own separate itself out from the hundred KG of gold ore without the help of an external medium... it needs requisite machinery to remove the 99 KG of dross within the ore.
Similarly, the unpurified Atman the soul within cannot on its own remove the dross within... it needs an external medium... a body in order to come back to its original pristine form. And in the process... this so-called impure Atman is required to manifest a body, which consists of a long chain of manifestations... a total of 8.4 Million manifestations and a Life cycle of 96.4 Million earthly years... a long journey indeed! The meaning of life......that's an age old question. Everyone tries to figure that out sometime during their own lives.
I think the meaning of my life is to be a great mom, a great wife, and an asset to society. If I help people as I continue to live my normal routine from day to day, I think that would be one of my meanings. I also think that every person has to find out the meaning of their own lives. Mine is my family, child, friends, acquaintances and strangers-how I treat them and how I try to make life better by doing good things. If you step back and look at the big picture, isn't that why we are all here? To live and learn? To feel good about ourselves by helping others?

This life is simply a training ground for the lives to come. That's why the Bible says, "let the weak be strong and the strong be weak." Because the weakest people of this lifetime are suffering incredibly for their whole lives but are learning discipline for the next lifetime to come. This discipline will take them farther than those who have had it easy in this lifetime because the people who have learned how to live in servitude and humility will have an easier time in the following life where those qualities will make their lives easier to live.

Through all the ages, philosophers have tried to answer this question. It can be very deep.
However, to me life is a game. A game consists of freedoms, barriers and purposes.
The common denominator of all living things is survival. Survival is understood to be the basic single thrust of life through time and space, energy and matter. Survival is subdivided into eight dynamics. There could be said to be eight urges (drives, impulses) in life. They are motives or motivations.
-1 - urge toward existence as one's self
-2 - urge toward existence as a sexual activity (sex, family, children)
-3 - urge toward existence in groups of individuals
-4 - urge toward existence as mankind
-5 - urge toward existence of the animal kingdom
-6 - urge toward existence as the physical universe
-7 - urge toward existence as or of spirits
-8 - urge toward existence as infinity or the Supreme God
Living is having and following a basic purpose.
Since you asked, life can be further defined as:
a static, which yet has the power of controlling, animating, mobilizing, organizing and destroying matter, energy and space, and possibly even time
or
that which is posing and solving problems.
I wonder if you were really interested in what was the source of life. The personality, the beingness, the awareness of awareness unit which has all potentialities but no mass, no wave-length and no location. The creator of things, the energy-space production unit. The creator of considerations and postulates. That's a different question. That's you!

You're right. We're on a rock floating around a star. The meaning of life is whatever God helps to give us, and whatever we give ourselves. Right now the meaning of my life is to organize boxes at a warehouse and eat delicious food before the world ends, which is really soon. It'll begin again, though, and there'll probably be a magical world once again.

2 days ago Karen asked the same question. The purpose is to serve God! Read the "Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren. It is based on scripture and the meaning of life will start making sense to you and the purpose God created you for. It will really make a lot of sense.
Also try going to a Christian Church. You will meet wonderful people that will encourage, support and pray for you. It will bring you alot of joy, peace and confidence of who you are.
God is really awesome.

well, actually there is a real meaning to life. There are many ways to tell you to enjoy life; you can seek these out, and make yourself happy...temporarily. These are important in our day to day existence...such as. spending time with family and friends, going out and enjoying life, etc..
BUT...the real purpose, or the meaning of your life, and my life...and the reason we were born, IS to keep working on ourselves, improving on our faults, trying to become more of what God wants us to become. If it sounds all religious, and sanctimoneous, it isn't! It is part of the bigger picture...We have to have goals, that is what makes life challenging and worthwhile. If you find your inner self, (become more spiritual, not religious!) you will be on the right path to finding our what your purpose is, and you'll have a real meaning to your life. Without true spirituality, which comes from knowing God and who you really are, life can seem hopeless and empty.
I hope this helps. You can email me, if you'd like to.
God Bless you.

The meaning of life cannot be better explained then if you go to the Beach at Clearwater, Florida and sit by the bridge at night and wait till the Dolphins swim by and stop and look at you and then you talk to them and they talk back to you...it just doesn't get better than that!

If you on no account be trained to believe any individual or whatever, it is going to have an antagonistic influence to your lifestyles. You will on no account be equipped to open your self up and be susceptible, that you have to do with a view to experss your self and experiece the emotional u.s.a.and down of lifestyles. People who on no account believe reside in little bubbles and it manifests into intellectual and bodily health problem.

I hope that you actually get to this before you give up looking through all those answers above. the meaning of life can be summed up in one bible verse, this is what we are here for, and if we are not doing it, it can certainly seem life has no meaning. so here it is: Rev. 4:11 thou art worthy O Lord to receive Glory, Power and Honor, for thou hast created all things, AND FOR THY "PLEASURE" they are and were created.
There it is! we were created to bring God pleasure, and when we do this life takes on great meaning.
