This has more to do with the governing policies of Malaysia than it has to do with Islam. In order to achieve 'harmony' between the different groups of people in Malaysia, the government tends to create 'parallel government structures' for each major religious group. Presumably, funeral services are included in this. It doesn't say that the problem was that the deceased changed faiths but that he didn't register that change of faith.

It's not how I would run a governmnet, but I guess if it's kept harmony in Malaysia, I should respect it. The problem here is actually about stuffiness in bureaucracy, not in Islam.

It seems to me that the article you cite is more about Malaysian politics than it is about Islam

Legally speaking, if this person truly converted to Christianity then they should not be allowed to be buried as a Muslim. The example you cite here is obviously a power play on the part of the Malays and both sides are using this poor unfortunate deceased person as a rallying point for their cause.

And Allah knows best.

Peace and Blessings,

Salim

PS yes I find all the freedom of religion I want in Islam, alhamduli'llah

Are you aravin paria arasuk with a different profile. To tell you the fact early Christians and Jews used to kill anyone that was not their religion but during Muslim's rule in Jerusalem, they gave everyone freedom to practice their religion. They were like how USA is today.

I absolutely have lived in iraq, and saudi arabia, and they do have freedom of religion. yet freedom of religion does no longer mean that folk except the gov't received't discriminate adversarial to you because you're different. In iraq, we had each thing, muslims, jews, and christians, i did not see that many in saudi arabia although. Iran is amazingly such as iraq.

One must form an opinion about Islam basing on the actions of a few individuals, or gossip, or media projection, or hear-say, but rather one must research and only then form an opinion.

There is no room for other religions in Islam. If you are not a Muslim or converting to be one, YOU ARE AN INFIDEL!

some examples from Koran :

There shall be no compulsion in religion: the right way is now distinct from the wrong way. Anyone who denounces the devil and believes in GOD has grasped the strongest bond; one that never breaks. GOD is Hearer, Omniscient. ( Koran 2:256 )

....And you will find that the closest people in friendship to the believers are those who say, "We are Christian." This is because they have priests and monks among them, and they are not arrogant . ( Koran 5:82 )

If one of the idol worshipers sought safe passage with you, you shall grant him safe passage, so that he can hear the word of GOD, then send him back to his place of security. That is because they are people who do not know. ( Koran 9:6 )

Do not argue with the people of the scripture (Jews, Christians) except in the nicest possible manner - unless they transgress - and say, "We believe in what was revealed to us and in what was revealed to you, and our god and your god is one and the same; to Him we are submitters." ( Koran 29:46 )

Say, "Do you argue with us about GOD, when He is our Lord and your Lord? We are responsible for our deeds, and you are responsible for your deeds. To Him alone we are devoted." ( Koran 2:139 )

Say, "We believe in GOD, and in what was sent down to us, and in what was sent down to Abraham, Ismail, Isaac, Jacob, and the Patriarchs; and in what was given to Moses and Jesus, and all the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction among any of them. To Him alone we are submitters." ( Koran 2:136 )

Say, "O followers of the scripture, let us come to a logical agreement between us and you: that we shall not worship except GOD; that we never set up any idols besides Him, nor set up any human beings as lords beside GOD." If they turn away, say, "Bear witness that we are submitters." ( Koran 3:64 )

Say, "O you disbelievers.
"I do not worship what you worship.
"Nor do you worship what I worship.
"Nor will I ever worship what you worship.
"Nor will you ever worship what I worship.
"To you is your religion, and to me is my religion." ( Koran 109:1-6 )
