What makes a man marry a woman? Total stupidity. But seriously, be intuitive and you'll soon find the right time to pop the question and as for being scared, the worst result is you'll get a NO. Can't be worse than that.

I have been told by many men that one day they just decide that it is time. Secondly, I don't date men who are not marriage minded, so that I don't waste my time. However, you need to make sure that you are ready for marriage. Marriage is hard and it requires a lot of work. Don't say yes for the wedding say yes because you want to spend the rest of your life with this person. When they are really sick, when they are making you insane, and when they are depressed. The good times are easy to get through ask yourself if you can get through the bad times with this person.

Same thing that makes a woman marry a man. It can vary from person to person, but I think for most, it's love. I'm a woman and grew up not wanting to get married. Infact, when my lover and I started going together, I wouldn't even allow him to call me his girlfriend. I think it slipped out (I called him my bf while talking to a friend of mine) by accident one day, I gave out fighting it and just accepted it. It took longer to accept that we love eachother.

Proposing, didn't happen with us. It just came up in conversation that we should get married. It wasn't the stereotypical romance thing. Our wedding isn't our marriage though and we see ourselves as emotionally and even financially commited, the wedding is just a party for our families. I'm actually dreading it. I find the whole thing embarassing and sort of silly, but it's important to our families that we declare our commitment publicly and let them party, so we'll let them have it. It's no big deal.

This only happens when he realizes that he is getting old.Growing old alone scares the pants off them!
But the other reason that he would propose is if he was forced to!

In my opinion, men will marry a woman they can respect as well as love. They may at certain stages of their life like having a woman around who will let them carry on just as they are, and let him have sex whenever he wants but they want to marry a woman who insists on respect and being treated decently and as an equal partner.

As someone else said, he will ask a girl to marry him if he loves her and knows that she wants to get married and if he doesnt ask her then someone else will as she is such a lovely girl!

It has all to do with security. Some need an extra income and some just the emotional side of having someone looking after the house and the family.

A man will marry a woman who acknowleges his efforts to provide a secure lifestyle. He must of course be attracted to the woman. If she's attractive and treats him like dirt, then he's not likely to propose.
