I agree with edsawyer. I am 100% Catholic and I do not understand why it is so important for priests not to be able to get married. But, that does not explain the other religions whose religious leaders are pedophiles. (There are some, not all, obviously. Just like not all priests are pedophiles. A large, huge number of them aren't.)
Sexual urges are natural, but I think that most religions don't condone it before marriage, as a lot of people dont' condone sex before marriage.

I agree there are certain requirements of various religions which go against the basic instincts of nature and wonder how the Religious leaders can actually " counsel " those who have certain problems without having the ability to have been in the same situation. but perhaps as a guess the Religious Leaders feel it is a matter of discipline to overcome these " sexual urges " which the Religious Leaders deem immoral or unclean.

You are right, it is natural, and a God-given gift also. We were created to have these urges, and to enjoy sex, because to God it was important that mankind "multiply and replenish the Earth." Sex is a sacred thing and is the most Godlike act mankind can enter into in this life (the creation of life). For this reason it is not to be taken lightly and should be respected. This is why many religions believe these urges should only be shared between married couples (it mocks God when we do not). It is meant to be enjoyable, but also sacred.
For these reasons I also don't understand why some religions would have ranks who pratice celebacy. They are preventing themselves from partaking in the most important thing God would have mankind do.

I agree. Celibacy should not be mandatory, but it should be an option. It's a man made decision, not dictated by the Bible. In the past the religious could marry and even go to war.
What I disagree is that it's something what only married people can do. That again makes it unnatural.

Religions are created by sociological leaders (albeit ringleaders of anarchic cults sometimes) to make thier society have certain rules to follow (to keep their society in order and conformity).
For somebody to go around acting upon a base instinct (that to reproduce and to have sex with anybody they want) means that there is no control. Humans have no familial identification. Meaning that should you and a non-identical twin sibling be separated at birth and you meet up 20 years later and fall in love. There is no instinct to tell you that this is wrong. However, medically speaking it can lead to all sorts of problems.
Should people be allowed to go around "sowing their wild oats" then you will end up with genetic diseases and the like spinging up from interbreeding. Humans will not be able to recognise who is related to whom and it will be chaotic.
Therefore the founders of the religions put in place a set of rules for celibacy and sexual conduct that is condusive to society's needs.
With the invention of contraception and the possibility for abortion I see no reason why sex can not be used for recreational purposes in a "free love" style. But religions don't like either of these thigns and therefore still frwon on promiscuity.

To me, it's not a stretch to say that the occurrences of paedophilia among Christian preachers is directly connected to what happens if you force somebody away from natural human impulses and desires: suppression of sexual feelings can burst to the surfaced - this time in unhealthy ways.
Though note that I'm not saying that always happens. Of course 95% of priests are not paedophiles and of course there are paedophiles in normal society too. But I think that if the Christian religion really want to seriously address the problems they are having with paedophiliac priests, they need to take a good look at their precept of mandatory celibacy.

It is my understanding that SOME are blessed w/ the gift of celibacy. Repeat, some. I have always wished the Catholic Church would allow clergy/nuns to marry if so desired. And, yes it is best to wait until marriage.

Who will be responsible for the children who might come from all these people mating like dogs?
Free love is beautiful,---except for the part about Aids and other diseases, abortions, adultery, and absentee parents.
Suppressing sexual urges is better than suppressing one's common sense.

if they are married then their is no reason for celebacy. as for those that took a vow of celebacy did so because for them God was more important and this is how they want to show thier love for him.

Islam does not supress sex and considers it as a human urge, only that Islam instructs not to act and live like animals and has guided means to satisfy the urge.
