As long as the number was not witheld or foregin you can press 1471 to get the number read back to you. If you press 3 you'll be connected to the number, BUT you will be charged extra for this, so it's better to just write the number down, hang up and dial it yourself.
You can also dial 1571 to check if the caller left you a message.
