That's a tricky one, being that they are young, but being real or fake it's some thing they are gonna find interesting and something to play with get a spray bottle and feel it up with water(of course)and evrytime you see them messing with the tree spray them(it's faster then getting to them, that most don't like water)do it often enouph they will start leaving the tree alone. But I wouldn't put no breakable or ornaments you don't want to be ruined close to the bottom of the tree. That make sure to sercure them to the tree so they won't get knocked off.You could try to spray vinager on it around, they don't like that or onions(they work to stop marking maybe it'll stop them from wanting to check out the tree.

Hi there...according to Cat-World real Christmas trees are more dangerous to cats than fake plastic ones. Pine needles can puncture internal organs if eaten, they are also toxic to cats.

So if you are considering this be sure to pick up the fallen pine needles and keep the tree watered frequently. Here's more on how to kitty proof a holiday tree: http://www.cat-world.com.au/XmasSafety.htm

Tough one! Try it, if they trash it it's not their fault though, it can be irresistible to them by nature. Let them smell it, but when they try to trash it say NO and take them in another place where they have their toys. And ATTENTION: DON'T USE ANY GLASS OR FRAGILE DECORATIONS, THEY CAN SWALLOW THEM AND DIE.
