I don't really think I've ever needed to. Actually that's not entirely true...when my bf and I were at our worst I did say "I'm done with it." I don't know if you can call it "unable to" or not but it's pretty difficult to tell someone goodbye when you really do care about them and someone who has, under every other circumstance, been a strong, calm pillar now looks like you have literally ripped their heart out (yes I know what literally means and yes I literally mean they literally look like they are missing a vital organ and are clinging to life as they look like they are in physical as well as emotional pain), and you are genuinely fearful for their safety. I guess fortunately for myself I can still sorta say I've never needed to because all the problems that lead to that meltdown I am very happy to say have been now absent for almost 6 months now. I guess people (myself included) really can change. I guess I don't say "I'm done with it" much because I like to stick with something and work it out. Capricorn =)

Man, anyone would be lucky to have me.

I did it once with an ex GF but she suffered from schizophrenia and severe mood swings and i really had no choice, it was either do that or go insane myself. It was not so hard because i did not love her but with my fiance Sherry there is no way i could just walk away because i love her so very much and would do everything possible to make it work. Other than relationships then i think i could just walk away no problem in fact i am trying to do it right now regarding my heavy drinking, i have decided i'm done with it.

I have tremendous patience and can go on forever, but sometimes one has to make a conscious decision and say 'enough' and walk away. My divorce was one of those times.

Only when I'm absolutely, certainly, possitively sure that i can do no more. and I'm exhausted.....then I'll limp away, looking back all the time to check for signs of change!

Sure, do the best that you can, knowing that it's the best that anyone could do, and walk away.
You can only do what you can do.
