at least 10 large (and I don't mean 7x11inch) framed portrait photographs placed around her living room, all of her. this doesn't include the five or so (smaller)pictures she has of her with somebody else. Other family pictures do feature but we are mostly consigned to the dining room and corridor and they are from the era when afros were in vogue. I often spend my time when i visit her looking for new pictures she has sneaked in, once I counted as many as thirteen. The latest one has a gold frame around it and is strategecally placed right opposite where she sits to watch TV. I have often wanted to point this out to her, but I know that would embarrass her. It doesn't stop me from getting depressed every time I go to visit her. Am I being unreasonable? She's divorced and 70.

Well it might not embarrass her, trust on this..she probably isn't a woman who gets easily embarrassed. Say something...go ahead why not....even if its only to find out why she does it, maybe she's insecure, maybe she never loved herself enough, maybe she feels like she's fading away? By saying something out of interest, not criticism, you open the door of comunication and anything is then possible.

yes unreasonable let her display herself maybe with her age in mind it invokes memories helps her to feel less alone or even if is just her style its hers to have you could all ways have a portrait taken of both of you that's current frame it and give it to her for the holidays at least breaking up the monotony

people do all sorts of things, some strange some not so but one thing is for sure,,she knows why she likes them there,,it or rather they probably all have special meaning to her,,no one else, just her and at her age it is good she still wants to remember good times in her life that may not mean much to others but are something worthwhile for her,,it is her home,,one she should be free to do whatever in and really,,who is she hurting here? you dont want to embarrass her but would it really embarrass her or is it just you who feels embarrassed,,leave her with it,,

Maybe the pictures remind her of times when she was happy! I say let her feel like a star. She's 70.....she deserves it!

leave your mom alone, she is 70 and this is her home. maybe because of her age she wants to be reminded of how she looked over the years and there is nothing wrong with that. beside you should be cherishing the time you have with her not worrying about how she decorates.

Let it be, she's having fun remembering and showing what she used to look like back in the good old days.
