Maybe because the death sentence may be commuted at the last minute, after the needle had been inserted. Couldn't have the guy getting a bad infection. Also, most needles once used are disposed of to prevent accidental pricking so they would have to use new sterilized needles with protective caps every time. But I don't know for sure

I guess that it is cheaper to use the sterile ones than not. Think also about the one putting the needle in. Wouldn't they like a sterile needle if they get stuck.

In case the person survives the injection, he/she may contract some other disease due to the unsterilized needle. A sick person cannot be put to death. The person first has to be cured and then only executed !!!!

This Q is similar to : Why do Kamikaze pilots wear helmets ?

Incase they contaminate the people administering the lethal injection. But mainly to make sure there is nothing to react to the lethal drugs and everything goes to plan.

I'd imagine it's for the benefit of the person administering the injection - they might also get stuck with the needle in an accident.

Can you buy unsterilised needles? :D

to be able to do an autopsy to get to know the precise cause of death........and besides it could be unfair if the victim is injected with a contaminated needle.and maybe the contamination could become an antidote to the injection.haha

Well... would it surprise you to know that a person has to be healthy to be legally executed?

Before the execution is carried out a full medical examination is made to ensure that the person is 'fit' to die.

Who says they do? If they don't clean out the needles they would get clogged and not worked properly....

I think to be more humane. Even though the person will be put to death, that I think is the proper way to do it.
