I prefer a genuine dessert wine, because the sweetness is usually balanced by the acidity. The high alcohol of a port IMHO impairs the senses therefore the wine flavors are lost. But many people love port, vintage is indeed a higher quality.

It's a fortified wine not a dessert wine. Drink anytime, but can be used as a digetif after particularly large rich dinners. Nice if mixed with brandy. Vintage is the one that's only really worth drinking. Have fun

I love it with dark chocolate. Some of the heavier ones are great over vanilla ice cream.
It has a high alcohol content because it has brandy added to it. Generally a serving is 2 ounces.

It is very heavy and sweet which is why its intended to be a dessert wine. All I know is that it knocks me on my butt whenever I drink it
