There is no rail system that goes from Sorrento to Rome. What actually happens is you take a local train called the "Cicumvesuviana" from Sorrento to Naples. It stops at the Napoli train station from where you can take the regular "Trenitalia" train to Rome, but there is no direct line from Sorrento to Napoli.
The link for the Circumvesuviana is http://www.vesuviana.it/infoeng.htm
The link for the "Trenitalia" is http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html

Have fun.
