I want my husband to get checked desperatly. Everyone in our house is suffering because of him. Some days he is fine and happy and fun. Others he sleeps all the time, when he is up, he says nothing nice, always yelling, and is never happy about anything. Our 2 children and I went to visit family for 10 days when we got off the plane he yelled at me with in 10 minutes, I thought he would be happy for us to be home. Does this sound like depression?

Can he be under some form of stress? It is difficult to tell from what you have just described. Only a medical doctor can give an accurate diagnosis as more detailed checks will be needed.

You can read about the symptoms of depression here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinical_depression#Symptoms

It sounds more like your husband might have bipolar disorder (manic-depression) though. Here are the symptoms of that: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Current_diagnostic_criteria_for_bipolar_disorder

I hope you can get your husband to seek help. It's not easy to live with a mental illness that is left untreated and it's hard on the whole family too. Good luck!

I don't believe that this sounds like depression, but sounds like someone that is looking for an out! Perhaps you should sit down with him and ask him if there is a problem between the two of you and I believe that you may find that he has something that he would like to say to you. Good luck.

depression is very serious and it does affect everyone that comes in contact with that it affects the most, but as it was already said it does not sound like depression it sounds somewhat to me that he might have a touch of bi-polar but regaurdless both are cureable with medication
