Statins are bad for you and have lots of side effects, it is better to reduce Cholesterol with diet and exercise.
They will not automatically lower BP. There are several types of medication to lower BP and without the name it is difficult to give you the mechanism.
He needs to eat more healthily ie reduce saturated (animal) fat and increase wholefoods such as fruit, veg, beans, pulses, fish, nuts, etc.
Best wishes.

Statins DO NOT lower blood pressure they are striclty to combat the amount of Cholesterol your body stores and how it stores it. High blood pressure can be caused by many things and generally the two are associated. My suggestion is to google the drugs and look at side effects - there are many side effects of Statins. My finace is on a statin substitute because he reacted very badly to the first drug they put him on. Most Importantly, you need to change your diet and lifestyle, reduce alcohol intake, eat high fibre, whole wheat, low fat foods, limit red meat and cheese, eat lots of fruit and veg and Excercise! All these things will help reduce Cholesterol and blood pressure.

High blood preasure is caused, by narrowing of the arteries ;
arteriosclorosis (disease of the arterial walls )
hardening and narrowing of the arteries ;
Kidney problems
impaired heart output
etc
a build up of cholesterol ,can also cause aditional serious narrowing of the arteries ,
which raises the blood pressure .
.statins == diminish the cholesterol levels, in the blood
so lessening, the build up, inside ther walls of the arteries ,
so the blood flows more easily,
Diet of course, helps reduce cholesterol from our foods .
But it is not the only reason, for this build up ,
we produce cholesterol naturaly ,in out bodies as well ,
some people more than others .
So other means of reduction of high blood pressure, need to be taken in conjunction with the statins
It is not out of order to ask,
what your medications do and how they help ;
that is whatDoctors are paid to do !!!.
Blood Pressure Medication ; ---- Is a minefield
tailored to your particular needs ;
This article , may explain better, than i can ,
some of the different medications and effects .
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are four types of blood pressure medications,
each made up of numerous medicines.
Each type acts in a different way, to lower your blood pressure.
Diuretics
Medicines that increase the elimination of sodium.
Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers
Medicines that inhibit blood pressure-raising hormones.
Alpha blockers, beta blockers, or combined alpha and beta blockers
Medicines that work through the involuntary nervous system to decrease pressure.
Calcium channel blockers
Medicines that reduce blood vessel constriction by interfering with the effects of calcium in the blood vessel wall. These medications do not affect blood calcium levels.
Vasodilators
Medicines that lower blood pressure by dilating arteries to decrease overall pressure in the circulatory system.
It is often possible to control blood pressure, with one or two medicines, but patients with complex hypertension may require more than two medications.
Remembering to take your medicine,
knowing which medications and dosages to take,
and writing this information down
are important aspects of your treatment.
Also, be sure to ask your doctor the following questions:
When should I take the medicine?
What should I eat or drink with the drug,
or how long should I wait before or after a meal to take it?
What are the drug interaction precautions?
With prescription medicines?
With over-the-counter medicines?
What should I do if I run out of the medicine?
What should I do if I forget to take a dose?
Are there any other special instructions?
Pay attention to how you feel ,while taking your blood pressure medication.
Call your doctor immediately, if you notice any side effects
or if you think you are having a reaction to your medicine.

>^,,^<

Thus avoiding a stroke or heart attack .

you get two types of cholesterol in your body LDL (bad) and HDL (good). if the LDL accumulate in blood vessels they can occlude the vessel resulting in high blood pressure.
taking statins lowers the number of LDL receptors in the liver and inhibit the enzyme HMG-CoA Reductase thus resulting in less LDL in the blood stream and less occlusion of the arteries.
it wont' lower the blood pressure because that plaque has already built up in the artery and blood pressure meds should still be taken with the statins.
blood pressure meds work on the heart by either decreasing oxygen consumption, decrease nodal conduction or decrease contractility of the heart muscle and various other things that lead to lowering of blood pressue. I'ts not similar to statins.

I wish I could answer your question more fully, but I do want to say that my aunt is going through this right now. They have changed her medications three times because they have seen her blood pressure fall, but her cholesterol increase, and vice-versa. They now have her on one medication that treats both symptoms. It's extremely complicated to understand, but your husband's doctor should be able to tell you in layman's terms what the problem is, so your husband and you can both understand it. Good luck!
Oh, by the way, my aunt was required to change her diet as part of the effort to lower her cholesterol, and she is not overweight at all. This seems to be an internal issue, not a weight issue.

my understanding in laymans terms
high blood pressure is caused by thick blood trying to travel through blocked or narrow arteries. by taking an anadin a day this thins your blood for easier travel.
