Unfortunately, with the exception of the schnauzer, all the breeds you named are heavy shedders. And the schnauzer requires regular professional grooming.
You might want to visit some local dog shows. This way you can meet the dogs in person, talk to the people that own and breed them and see for yourself which would suit your needs.

Besides the schnauzer, all the dogs you have listed shed a lot. I would suggest you look into a female doberman. They are very loyal and ALWAYS want to be with you wherever you are. Besides simply shedding on a regular basis throughout the year, the GSD, Aussie, Lab and Husky will all blow coats twice a year, which turns into a huge hairy mess. You would need to do a daily brushing to keep this down. The good thing about the dobie is that they don't have an undercoat to blow and have very mild shedding throughout the year.

Hmm, pity you can't cope with furry dogs being inside, lol, narrows the field somewhat, but have you thought of a Saluki?
Recently my daughter was trying to find the right dog for her situation. Fur wouldn't have been a problem for her, but she did live in the tropics, where basically the climate only varies between "wet" and "dry" but the temperature pretty much stays the same, night or day, all year round. So a hairy double coated breed wouldn't cope too well. Between us, we came up with the Saluki. I am well aware of the reputation of the Saluki in some countries as being aloof and untrainable, but not so the many Saluki homes we visited before making the final decision and my daughter has never regretted the decision. Her dog is delightful, friendly with all creatures although being a sight hound he does have the instinct to chase and therefore my daughter takes him to lure coursing, a sport in which he excels and they both have great fun!
Anyway, just another breed to throw into the melting pot for you -:))

its not on your list, but I have to say a boxer. They are medium size, and girls get about 60 pounds. They have short hair and dont shed much. They are extremely loyal, and bond really close to the family. They love children and other animals. They are so funny they will have you rolling all the time, and they love to cuddle on the couch, or sleep with thier masters in bed. I have one and I wasnt a dog person til we got him and now I want to buy more of them, he is the best dog. They are so sweet, and will watch your home and bring so much happiness I have no doubt of it. Do a image search on yahoo, and type in boxer dog, you'll see the great expressions and funny things they do. They really are IMO the best dogs out there.

First of all NO DOG SHOULD BE IN YOUR BED.............Creates possession issues and trouble down the road. Both the Aussie and the German shepherds are great dogs, i breed Germans, but are to big and to much hair....Labs are good for the right people but not everyone, can become neurotic and destructive without the right job...... Huskies like all northern breeds want and need to run and lots of hair.... Schnauzers are Great but need a firm hand to deal with but shed very little....If your just looking for companionship then the Schnauzer but if you want companionship and protection then Definitely the GERMAN SHEPHERD they are VERY LOYAL and can and should be CALM and FRIENDLY if you can be the pack leader ....VERY EASY with proper foundation training as a puppy or young dog.....GOOD LUCK and fill free to contact me for more on breed standards and TRAINING TIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!HOPE THIS HELPS

The bichon frise is a good dog because they do not shed. They are hypo-allergenic and they have always been very loyal dogs.
