I would suggest a chiropractor, they are a bit like osteo's, but deal with only the back. Sounds like you may have trapped the sciatic nerve, Im no doctor, but have and do suffer from the same thing, after initial 6 or 8 visits to a chiro, i see him maybe 3 or 4 times a year now for minor adjustments, and feel right as rain.
I did go for traction, various treatments in hospitals etc, with no progress at all, despite modern day technology, my chiro did in 2 months what hospitals could not do in 2 and a half years.

Become aware of the complexity of the problem with low back distress. When there is pain involving a nerve or nerves, there is considerable swelling of the nerve and surrounding tissues. There is also a considerable amount of muscle spasm, primarily on one side. This muscle is smaller than the one on the other side of the spine and therefor creates a bending of the spine. This unequal muscle tension involves the weight bearing muscles of the back. The shorter muscle must be stretched out to equal the one on the other side, before you will have any permanency of relief from the problem.
I would suggest you receive the proper treatment and stretching technics from your local doctor of Chiropractic.. Most of the progress will depend on how effectively you do the stretches at home. Will reduce the number of treatments you will have to undergo. If they are not recommended by the doctor, find one who insists on them.

You have my sympathy, I have had your trouble I had an MRI scan and then an . operation, key hole surgery to clean up the vertebrae and release the trapped nerve. For months before the op, in spite of an arsenal of drugs including opiate based pain killers, physio, acupuncture, tens machines, osteopaths I was in constant agony, After the op I was fine, I couldn't believe how well it worked. Hope you don't have to wait too long, the waiting lists were i live were horrendous so I gritted my teeth and paid for
it privately, best money I ever spent. Good luck and best wishes

I visited an osteopath for a similar complaint, after a week or two I was up and about again with no pain.

my mom had something similar, a trapped sciatic nerve. she's quite obese though, and I think weight had something to do with it. she had a sports massage which was quite rough and left her feeling bruised for a few days, but really did wonders for the trapped nerve. she had one massage, then two weeks later another, and after that she was able to walk properly again.
