Calcium is better absorbed in an acidic enviroment. Try to take it 1 hour after meals (when gastric acidity is highest) for the highest absorption. Also, be sure not to take more than 600mg at a time. This is the maximum amount that the body can absorb at once. If you need to take more than that (for example, if you are at risk of developing osteoporosis), divide your daily dose into several doses throught the day.

Calcium needs vit D, magnesium and Boron to be absorbed and utilised, try and get a supplement which contains all of these and make sure it is Calcium citrate, not carbonate, which again is better absorbed.
They are best taken with food.

Best wishes.
