I have identified the rifle I want, the Ruger M77 MarkII Standard 30.06, now I want to shop it as best I can. any suggestions?
This state with all it's gun laws drives me nuts. If their is a way to buy this online, what sites do you suggest?
Thanks for the help

Just find an FFL who is willing to accept the transfer, most charge quite an unreasonable amount so you might be just as well off buying through a dealer. In the unlikely even that you happen to be in Mendocino county I can recomend a very reasonable dealer who will not rip you off, but he only does sporting guns, no pistols or questionable stuff like AR lowers. I'll be ordering my Tikka T3 through him. Walmart will also order a Ruger MKII for you, though I didn't see 30-06 listed.

I know you said on-line, but that is a rifle that you can have a Walmart order for you. Their distributor has them. That could save you a lot of hassle and cost with finding a Federal Firearms Dealer to import it for you.

I can't remember what I paid for mine, but they do have the ability to get many other guns than they have on display, and now that deer season is over they should be pretty slow at that counter.

On-line though, like so many have said, www.gunbroker.com will find you the best prices for sure.

Or, depending on how close you are to Nevada, buy there and bring it in yourself. Just make sure it is boxed, unloaded, bullets not in the same box or around the rifle, best to not have them in the damn car--in your trunk. Nevada has had the best deals I have ever seen buying guns of all types. Especially those pawn shops around Vegas-- Holy Christ those people pawn everything off down there!

Direct-to-consumer sales went away in 1968, so you'll need a local dealer's help. Depending on the dealer, and how good a customer you are, he might even do his part for a nominal fee. There are several sites online, but be careful-they're generally 3d party clearinghouses and not responsible if some underhanded poster runs off with your money. I've gone both ways, but I much prefer knowing the guy I'm buying from.

California sucks for us gun owners. The best you could do is to arrange with a local gun dealer to receive the rifle for you and make arrangements for the out of state dealer to ship it to them. I think Big 5 asks $25 for doing the transfer paperwork. Good luck!

First, find yourself a gun dealer that will do the legal transfer for you. Most pawn shops will do this. I have a guy in my area that will charge $20. Make friends with this guy.

You order and pay for the gun and shipping. He sends them his FFL and they ship the gun to him. He then does the legal transfer to me.
