It does not have any physiological effects if that what your curious about. However, some people claim that a shower wakes them up but it does the opposite to me.

With regard to your Rheumatic reference i do not believe that a shower before bedtime will incite a streptococcal infection unless your shower is a microbiologists dream. It is true that Rheumatic fever presents itself predominantly in children but surely not as a result of a shower. In addition Rheumatic fever is virtually nonexistent in "First World Countries" as opposed to third world countries. It is probably a wise tale just like cold causes a cold. There has been no correlation that cold weather causes the common cold. However, the simple fact that people tend to stay inside more hours of the day and the air is recirculated in the building etc. people tend to get more colds during this time. In addition people do not exercise as much, (ie: walk virtually anywhere outside=exercise) thus lowering your immune system responses.

No not true. Must be an old wives tale. My son is 6 and takes a shower at 8 for 8:30 bedtime. He's just fine.

No, that's an old wives tale. It doesn't matter what time kids do stuff. It doesn't matter what time they go to sleep, either, as long as they get enough sleep. My daughter ( 2 1/2) goes to sleep around 10 or 11 and gets up around 9. She takes a nap, too. It's just her internal clock. (This is in response to the person who thinks 2-year-olds should be asleep by 7.)

for a 2 year old yes, they should have been asleep by then.

for a 15 uear old no.

Any chance of you defining what age you are talking about AND perhaps what specific conern you have about 7pm ?

**UPDATE**

No, it is not going to cause any rheumatic problems but as a shower is a fairly invorating thing, it will probably make it harder for the child to sleep straight after.

Why would it be "bad" for a child to take a shower any time of the day or night as long as he/she is supervised (depending on the age)?

You need to add more details to your question.

I've heard some crazy old wives tales, but this one is new to me. Rust me, I have too kiddos, it's fine. Showering will not cause anything but a clean baby before bed. If so, you would hear warnings from pediatricans.

No it doesn't really matter what time children shower at so long as when thy go to bed they get enough sleep to keep them healthy, at 7pm where I live it is still day light.
