Don't put that one just on women, dude, that's unfair. Men do the same.
That's simple. Because we are not beings ruled by logic. Our main drive comes from our senses, our gut instincts, what we are feeling NOW. And if now feels good, especially intensely good, it's hard to give up, no matter what the long term effects are.
Not to mention, if one were to give up whatever's making them unhappy at that point... who's to say things will necessarily get better? Sometimes security and predictability are worth the price of unhappiness.

They are intimidated by threats and violence by a controlling person and feel in danger if they try to leave. In turn they have been conditioned to be the victim and are made to believe that they only deserve to be unhappy. In effect their brain has been shut down and have been stripped of any and all identity of themselves. They no longer posses any free will. Some men are like this also.

The same reason you stay in an apartment that you have problems with the water pressure, or you save the jacket from 9th grade that doesn't fit you anymore or why you love to whistle a song that was out 15 years ago...habit and the need to surround yourself with familiar things! People are creatures of habit; even a cigarette, which feels awfull, tastes nasty and you know can kill you becomes an old friend after years of doing them...
